Just Look UP!
January 30, 2022. No. 143
I just saw the movie "Don't Look Up" a new Netflix movie, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrance.
Synopsis
“Two mediocre astronomers discover that, in a few months, a meteorite will destroy the planet Earth. From that moment on, they try to warn humanity of the coming danger through the media.”
Spoiler Alert: This article from now on will be full of spoilers and references to the movie.
The film is of the comedy/catastrophe genre and is rather focused on a satire of today's society, in which we live. Since trivial things and those that truly require importance are given importance, we hardly look at them enough.
It turns out that Jeniffer Lawrance discovers a new meteorite, and her teacher, DiCaprio, when doing the calculations of the trajectory, realizes that the meteorite, about 9 km in size, will hit the earth in just about 6 months. This event is enough to shatter the entire face of the earth, driving all species on the planet to extinction. Something that perfectly, could be completely real.
Bringing the news to the president of the United States, who in this case is played by Meryl Streep, is when a whole clown begins and criticizes the current system in which we are involved on a day-to-day basis. The importance they give to it is absolutely the least possible as if it were better to win an election in a month than attend to the imminent destruction of all life in just 6 months.
Even the president, after hearing all the arguments, said that they should: "Sit Tight and Assess", to which Lawrence replied:
- Do I understand correctly that, with all the information you received today, the decision you make is to "Sit Tight and Assess"?
Evidently, the place was a bloody circus.
Even on a TV show, they were invited to, no one was serious about such an event happening. They simply minimized any comment about it, no matter how harsh and true it was.
To a certain extent, it seems very familiar to me with everything we live in today. We give importance to hundreds of things first than what really matters. We prefer news about actors, entertainment, movies, even videos of kittens, than children in extreme poverty, or international conflicts that could lead to a 3rd World War, and then if it would not take a meteorite to end all humanity. The atomic bombs would do it in a matter of seconds or later over the years, the radiation would end up killing all the survivors.
When they found out, they tried to carry out a mission to divert the course of the meteorite, because just as the rocket took off, the president ordered the mission to be aborted, because now it turns out that they wanted to take advantage of the minerals that the meteorite had and control its entry into the earth. . This at the hands of a millionaire company, run by the 3rd richest man on the planet. The rich get richer, and the poor get poorer.
Campaigns were created on the networks with the slogan "Don't Look Up" and others with the hashtag #justlookup, that is, those who did not believe and those who did believe that such a danger existed. That's when the meteorite was right over their heads and it began to be seen among the stars and it was getting bigger and bigger, and at that moment, everyone believed.
Obviously, this did not end well. The mission of the private company was a total failure and the meteorite fell to earth. Creating a wave of expansion that devastated the entire planet.
"We had it all. How did we get here?" DiCaprio said just before the destruction reached his house, were already resigned to fighting without anyone listening or taking him seriously, he enjoyed the last dinner with his family and friends. Undoubtedly, a very difficult scene to watch.
Never stop looking up. Never again sit tight and assets. Just keep moving.
If any of you have already seen the movie, let me know in the comments.
