Becoming a veteran

Good day to you friends and happy belated Father's day to my readcash friends who are already fathers or who are intending fathers, I wish you all eternal bliss. Yesterday been the father's day, we had a service for father's which we call brothers affair Sunday because my church is a youth church and we really don't have fathers, we only have brothers who will soon be fathers and few fathers. Being that it was father's day, we discussed about a particular topic which is "becoming a veteran".

Firstly, who is a veteran?

A veteran is someone who is skilled or who have acquired skills in something for a long period of time.

Normally, the term "veteran" is often used in an army so in review of this, I would say a veteran is a soldier who has acquired skills in the army overtime.

Now, how does being a veteran relates with fathers?

We actually used the term veteran for fathers because fathers are supposed to be as veteran, they are supposed to have acquired enough skills relating to marriage, parenting and the likes... They are supposed to be able to endure everything a veteran can endure and most importantly, they are supposed to be soldiers for Christ.

How can you become a veteran?

• The first step into becoming a veteran is to first join the army and become a bonafide soldier. This means as fathers, if you must be a successful father, then you have to first join the army of Christ that is giving your life to Christ.

• The second step of becoming a veteran is by following all the rules of the army. You would agree with me that as a soldier, you cannot do but follow all the rules of the army because if you don't, there will be serious penalty and that is the same thing with becoming a good father, you have to follow all the rules of fathering.

The rules of fathering involves;

• Obedience

• Faithfulness

• Setting priorities

• Acquiring knowledge

• Having strategies

• Boldness

Some of the other things to note about being a veteran /good father

• One person cannot make an army. This simply means that in order to be a good father, you will need the cooperation of your family.

• A relaxed soldier is a dead soldier. Soldiers are always at war and that means being a father, you must always be at alert in order to quickly detect if there's any problem.

• If you are in army, you must carry yourself as a soldier. This simply means that as a father, you must carry yourself as a father, you mustn't allow anybody ride you anyhow.

• Becoming a veteran is not a day job. In order to become a good father, it takes time because you have to keep learning and acquiring skills.

• Becoming a veteran entails knowing your own fight. As a good father, you have to know the type of battle you should fight and also know the ones you should not fight because if you do, it might put your whole family in trouble.

• A soldier who dies in battle is better than a soldier who is running away from battle then dies on the way. There's honour in dieing as soldier than dieing as a commoner, you have to be a soldier till death as a father.

• As a soldier, you cannot be a deserter. This means as a good father, you cannot desert your family, your family must be your topmost priority.

In conclusion, I will want you fathers or intending fathers to know that the best war that is win is the one that is not fought at all so learn to leave all your battles for God to fight it on your behalf, you will be glad you did.
