I'm only editing on the phone XD too lazy to open the laptop to post but oh well. I'm definitely ending this in the next chapter;;-;; but the prompt ideas were so good- send help so I can end this once and for all
“I’m sure you’ll find them” Byron’s tone changed, he was getting quite nervous when she had mentioned his family name “Anyways, I can only make vegetable soup for today, will that be enough for you?”
He was answered with a questioning look. But based on her confusion, she probably didn’t know what he was talking about. Another sigh escaped him as he got to picking the ingredients he would be needing.
It wasn’t so bad having company for once. Although he didn’t really enjoy having someone constantly asking what he was doing. Perhaps her kind was so removed from society which was why she had no clue. Either way, he had to muster all the patience he had to explain everything to her one by one. It was a challenge, yes. Luckily, she picked up quite fast that in the next few days that she was under his care, she was able to cook and do some of the repairs that still needed to be done after her rampage. She was magic reliant, that much he could tell from the way she would make use of her wind and plant magic.
“So tell me, what do the Greames have to do with your kind?” Byron had been meaning to put the question off for a while but curiosity really wasn’t something he enjoyed experiencing. From the moment she mentioned his family’s name, he already knew it was no good.
“They promised us something” Was what she said “Our leader was supposed to meet them but he didn’t make it. It was only me” Her gaze fell to her feet and she seemed quite saddened by the memory.
“I… may know where they live” He forced a smile and gestured for her to look at him “Want to see if they’ll be around? I’m allowed into their house sometimes” He lied. He knew they wouldn’t come back, and he definitely had no plans on returning to his former home, but he wanted to know what it was his parents did to even be involved in the extinction of a race.
Without a second’s delay, she nodded “Then tomorrow, let’s go see them. I can turn human so no need to think about how to hide me” A mischievous smile then played on her lips before she turned on her heels to head to the room she was allowed to use.
“She- what? How?!” He was baffled for a moment, stuck to his seat as he processed just how she figured out what he was thinking of before he could even mention it. Could she read minds? He didn’t want to think about it anymore. With an exasperated breath, he got up and headed to bed. Tomorrow was going to be an exhausting day was the last thing on his mind before he retired to bed.
After finishing their meal, they headed towards the old cabin on the other side of town. And honestly, it wasn’t the town that distracted Byron, not at all. It was the figure Sylvia assumed. In her sylph form, she was adorable, almost child-like but as a human… he could only stare slack-jawed at her features. Beautiful couldn’t even come close. He never expected anything like this so he wasn’t sure how he would even talk to this sylph without stuttering. All he knew was that he needed to end this visit as soon as possible so that she would return to her sylph form
“If it makes you that uncomfortable, I can change back as soon as we get into your house, Byron” Her tone was teasing
It honestly made him question if she’s always been like this but when she said ‘your house’ that was when all his suspicions were confirmed: “So you can read minds!” He explained once they were nearing his former home.
“I didn’t need to this time, you just looked uncomfortable with me in this form” She ushered him to keep walking so that they could get there sooner “But yes, I can read minds. I knew all along”
As irritated as he might have been, he just groaned in frustration while unlocking the door as soon as they arrived “Things could have been a lot easier if you had told me sooner” he muttered underneath his breath while he showed her his parent’s room “So what do we even need to find?”
“It was… I’m not sure, honestly” As soon as the realization finally came to her, she deflated on the plush bed “It was the leader that knew. I was only told that they would know what to do as soon as they saw me in this form” She heaved a deep sigh as she shook off the wind spell she used to change her form.
“Do you guys have like, your own language or something? My parents had weird books’ Byron gestured out the door where he showed her his father’s study. He wasn’t really allowed in there much. But at times when his parents were gone, he did manage to sneak his way in by picking on the locks.
“We do but we mostly use our language for spells” She was now zooming after him “But why would humans have our books?”
Byron could only shrug as he laid out all the books on his father’s old desk “They were odd. They had a lot of secrets but they meant no harm. Or so I think” he opened the books one by one but what caught his attention was a book written in English. It was hollowed out to have a key. But to where the key would fit, neither of them knew.
Sylvia took a closer look at the key, and what bothered her more than anything was that it was one of their coveted enchanted keys, The kind that could hide certain things even in plain sight. “I agree that they’re odd. This one must be hiding something powerful” She twirled the key over her palms “Look at the amount of scripture written on it”
“But what does it even open” He leaned in closer
“Let’s just try this on everything that has locks! They must have hidden it in plain sight if they didn't bother to hide this well enough. Maybe they were even making sure that you would find the key.
I like the fantasy genre, and this beautiful Sylph 🥺🥺 Love where this is going ❤️
