True Sign of Love
Hello Readcash authors! It's Lord's day and at the same time a family day. I hope only few was not able to visit in God's house today due to bad weather. Like my two children and my cousin's daughter were left at home. Only my wife and I went to the church to attend the Palm Sunday as opening of the Holy Week. Anyway!
What is love for you? How do you express your love to other people?
We are master of determining the significance of different colors. White color symbolizes peace, simplicity and purity. The color violet or purple symbolizes spirituality, mystery and royalty. The color that is represented by earth, nature, growth and money is green. While red color is represented by power, strength, passion and love. But what is the true sign or symbol of love? Definitely your answer is heart β€οΈ. But there is more than that.
The true sign or symbol of love is not the heart. Why? Because the time will come that our hearts will stop loving. Sometimes, we stop loving others for the reason that they abuse the goodness we have shown to them. When we love, sometimes we ask them some conditions. We love those who can afford to love us back. Our hearts get weary or tired loving people because we expect to be loved also in return from them. That's not the real essence of love.
But the true sign of love is the man hanging on the cross who suffered and died for us. He is Jesus our Lord and God, our King, our Saviour, our Redeemer and our friend. He never get tired loving us even until His death. He came down from heaven not to be served but to serve the least, the last and the lost people on earth. He is our Lord and God who did lot of miracles to glorify His heavenly Father. He is our King whose crown is thorns. He is our Saviour who saved us from being sinfulness. He is our Redeemer in times of hardship and difficulty especially when we pray through Him. Lastly, He is just not only an ordinary friend, but a real and true friend who will never abandon us in our darkest hours. We should love Him with all our hearts, our souls, our strength and our minds.
Wait! There is more. Jesus is not just a sign or symbol of love because He Himself is Love. The symbol or sign that I am referring to is the Cross. Because when we say symbol or sign, it is something or an object that expresses a particular idea. Therefore, it is a thing not a human. Yes, for us the real symbol of love is no other than but the cross. Everytime when I see a cross, I will be reminded how Jesus offered His life to us. That is what we called self-offering, an expression of love.
How can I say that the cross is a symbol of love? Cross is formed by the two lines (woods); horizontal and vertical lines. What is its significance? The vertical line, since it is going up, that is our love to God. We should obey His commandments even not all as long as we have time to worship Him, to glorify Him, to serve Him, to thank Him, and to praise Him above all.
But how can we love our invisible God spiritually if we don't know to love other people that can be seen with our two eyes? We are only hypocrite. Our relationship with God is like a love triangle. Once we have a strong relationships towards other people, it's God's love that unites one another.
The horizontal line is represented by our love to others even to our enemies. Meaningfully, to love God is to love His people. In the biblical sense, God will not accept our offerings if our hearts are full of anger, hatred, and vengeance against to our enemies. God commanded us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Our love to other people must be guided by the golden rule. Do unto others what others want you to do unto you. Our first neighbor is our family. Thus, honoring our parents is the first commandment to obey. The rest commandments will be for other people.
Everytime when I pray in front of the public especially when we have our school programs and activities, I would say, as we make the sign of love, In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. I was emphasizing to many people that because of the cross, Jesus Christ redeemed the world.

Writer's note
The cross is the symbol of our redemption by Christ. In the Old Testament, for the Israelites the bronze snake is the symbol of the law and of their salvation. This bronze snake in the New Testament points to the crucified Christ. To us who are saved, the cross is the power of God. His death on the cross led us to salvation.
