We have many reasons why we study from primary to college. One is to gain knowledge and skills, second is to become educated and lastly to be independent and successful in life in the near future. But do you know what is the main purpose of your life here on earth? Answering this question, people may have different answers on this. Many people would say they lived for a purpose. Others may say they were born to die. But if you are asked with the same question, what would be your response?

Lot of people knew already the answer of this question. They got it inside the church particularly on a retreat or recollection. People like priests, pastors or church leaders who have full of wisdom shared their knowledge to the laity people about the purpose of life. The purpose which is to know God, to love God and to serve God.

To know God

Knowing our purpose on Earth is knowing how meaningful our life is. This is our first purpose in life which is to know God who created us. According to Saint Jerome, ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ. Meaning to say, we will know God more if we read His words written on the Bible. So, we should practice going to the church regularly. By studying His words and doing His commandments, we will know God. How much more if we go to His house to listen the teachings and homilies from the church leaders.

To love God

The second purpose in life is to love God. How can we love God if we don't know Him yet. Before we love Him, we should learn that God loved us first. Out of love, He created us. So, we don't have right not to love Him back though He's not asking for it. But how to love Him? The bible can answer it. It says in the book of John, Jesus said that if you love me, then obey my commandments. The two greatest commandments are first, "Love God with all your strength, with all your mind, with all your heart and with all your soul". Second, love your neighbor as you love yourself. We should learn to love our neighbors who are visible because how can we love God the Spirit if we don't know to love people who can be seen.

To serve God

The third and the last purpose is to serve God. This purpose would make sense the first and the second purpose. It is not difficult to know God and it is easy to say that we love Him. But what is the hardest thing is to serve Him. We have so many hindrances why we can't serve Him. Lot of temptations will come in our lives that barricade us in serving Him. We can't go to His house every week for some reasons and alibis. We are sometimes selfish of giving Him time or day. Even on the rest day or the Lord's day, we are still busy of different worldly things that can separate us from the love of God.

Final Thoughts

Let's make our life meaningful. The only way to travel safely going to our journey towards heaven is to know God, to love God and to serve God. In the end, when we get to heaven, the Almighty Father will welcome us and tell us, "Well-done, my good and faithful servant". You have served your purpose well."
