The internet world is making everything easy and handy on the one hand and on the other hand there are viruses, malicious programs, data theft, money laundering, black mailing working behind it unseen.
Anything bad consequences can happen with just one wrong click. You'll never know what a wrong click can take you.
In this article I will write about the ways to keep yourself safe in the online world from basis of my experience.
I refrain from doing these things and you can also keep yourself safe on the internet. So let's take a look:
Do not click on any link out of curiosity.Refrain from clicking on any kind of link. We upload various personal information of our life on various social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
You do not know what is in this link. In the online world there are so many people out there trying to hurt you.
As I say from my experience. A friend of mine clicked on a malicious link out of curiosity a few days ago. The link was told that you can win 500 dollar by playing a quiz.
In this way, his Facebook ID got victim of hacking. You have to curb your greed. In the online world, no one gives anything to anyone for free. Use your conscience and intellect.
Not only that, if someone sends you a message with such a link,if you see something suspicious, dont click on it. There will be no shortage of people to who wants to harm you.
Always turn on two-factor authentication:
Turn on two-factor authentication for accounts that have this feature. Two-factor authentication is a combination of "double layers" of security. In that case, you are the second security.
If this feature is not enabled in any of your accounts, then do it today immediately.
Phishing
The most used way to steal information from someone. You will see various messages in your email. A very familiar way is to win the lottery.
To get money they ask you to give all the information of your bank account. It may seem very common to you but every day many people make this mistake. With money, you lose all kinds of bank information.
Not only you can lose money, but your mobile or computer can be infected with a virus. So do everything to avoid these bad situations:
Don't click on emails from strangers no matter how tempting the offer may be.
If you receive an email from an organization such as a charity or business, find out about that organization before you make a transaction. Find out if they exist in reality.
The language of the email, such as: Grammatical errors, pay a close attention. No official email will ever make this small grammatical mistake. Have a close look at the type of email writing very carefully.
If you need to give your email address to create an account on a site, never give your personal email address. Use a secondary email address.
Because there are some sites that collect your emails and sell them to third parties. You do not know who these third parties or how your email address is being used. So never give a personal email address when signing up on any site.
Keep your smartphone updated regularly Our phones get security patch updates from time to time. Update your phone as soon as the update comes. Always keep the Android version and software version of your phone updated.
Refrain from using public WiFi or free WiFi Whether you go to a restaurant or a market, you see that there is free Wi-Fi. Don't connect to them without any worries. You are giving your important information to fraudsters through a small mistake. Or whether it is ensuring your safety at all.
Never transact your personal information such as passwords, credit card numbers using public networks.
Ensure the security of the smartphone
Do not share OTP or one time passwords that came to your phone.
No organization or banking company will want to know your password. Never make this mistake.
Use a more effective pattern or password instead of your phone's fingerprint or face unlock.Give a strong password or pattern. So that no one from outside can enter your phone.
If there are people around, if you are out or in the car, be careful about giving passwords, giving patterns.
Always turn off Bluetooth, Hotspot, Wi-Fi. If these are turned on, your phone's battery runs out very quickly, as well as a threat to the security of the phone.
Before downloading any type of file, take a good look at the extension of that file. The extension of the file is what kind of file it is.
For example, if you download an audio song, the name of the song usually has .mp3 at the end. When you download a book, it usually has .pdf, .doc, etc.
Check the extension before downloading the file. Do not download any file from any spamming site. There are some sites where if you press the download button, you will see five tabs open in the browser at a time. Avoid these sites.
If you ever need to have your phone serviced, put your photos, videos and everything else in the service before putting it in service, then put it in servicing.
Don't give a stranger or suspicious person chance. There are some apps that need to be installed on the victim's phone from outside.Giving someone you trust means calling your own danger.
A little caution can protect you from such scams, from data theft and black mailing. And don't get lost in the colorful light of the online world. You have to pay a lot for a simple mistake here.
