What has become of the youth? Who is at fault?

The situation of the youths today has gotten out of hand, I fear what the future would look like if things are like this now. There are lots of atrocities going on in the world and the youth seem to be always at the center of everything, it bothers me a lot knowing that leaders of tomorrow are beginning to become the problems of today.

I don’t want to agree that survival is the reason for the increase in the crime rate, I have been outside today and I saw people doing lots of menial jobs, aren’t they surviving?

Many of the things happening are just youth trying to find a quick means to have a good life, surviving should not bring a threat to the life of innocent people and that’s not the case today. It would have been okay if they hurt themselves alone when committing these crimes, they take down people who are genuinely trying to survive.

There are numerous terrible acts the youth are engaging themselves in and cybercrime seems to be the biggest of it all; I overheard a conversation where a guy told his friend that he needed about $700 to learn something that has to cybercrime. He was bragging about how many his friends were making from what he wanted to learn, that sum of money would set up a small business that can grow steadily if done properly. Aside from cybercrime, ritual is another thing a lot of youths are venturing into for money, hard drug, political crime, and others.

These things are happening for a lot of reasons, it is easier to blame parents and the government but the youth have the biggest share of the blame.

Greed and laziness is the biggest factor for me, like I said youths today want to be rich without working. They want miracle money that doesn't exist, every penny we want to enjoy in life must be earned or worked for. Every youth has dreams, we all want to own huge cars and houses but instead of channeling our strength towards hard work, we choose to fuel our greed and laziness which would only lead us to do terrible things.

Society/social influence and peer pressure: Social influence is another issue, a lot of youth can't handle the things they see and it ends up making them do bizarre things. Celebrities go on flaunting designer wear and the youth today would go to all lengths just to be on the same level as those who are earning more than they are doing.

Imagine what BBnaija is doing and how much they are giving to winners, how many educational competition gives 5 million naira as a reward?

If someone can sit in a house doing silly and make millions, why should I stress myself studying all day when I can do anything to get a ticket to the competition? If by chance I expose my body and win the heart of the people, I can make enough money.

The social world is not helping matters, a lot of things must be put in check so that they can be of more good than bad influence.

Parents have hands in this and some parents are just not lucky because they would train their children but once the kids get out there, they easily forget the things that matter.

A lot of parents are at fault as well because they have failed to teach their children the right to do in life, I recently saw a video where a celebrity laughed off her son touching her buttock on camera, the child would see it as nothing and could probably go on doing it to others.

Children learn from their parents and the bad things they do comfortably around their parents become a terrible habit that can't be controlled and it even gives birth to more terrible acts we are seeing today.

Government: I don't like discussing the government's impact on the youth because they are not helping us in any way.

They have failed to deliver and the earlier we understand that they won't do anything up there except for filling their bag with wealth the youth needs to grow, the better for us.

The solution to these terrible things we see in the world.

The solution to these problems is simple, we ain't just ready to apply them and this has to do with most, especially the youth.

The government providing work today doesn't guarantee that these things will stop because many of the youth have illegally created standards that are bigger than what the government would offer as a salary.

The youth must learn to be contented: If the youth today can learn to live within their means, a lot of these things wouldn't be happening today. A guy who isn't getting enough money from cybercrime anymore would do more terrible things to get more money but being content can help you survive through any phase of life you pass through.

I said earlier that I am not expecting a miracle from the government which means every youth needs to create opportunities for themselves, and it should be a good opportunity.

Technology has created a lot of opportunities for us but not everyone is ready to settle for the good privileges, I introduced someone to crypto blogging only for the person to tell me the next day that it wasn't the kind of money he was looking for.

Salary is not enough anymore so getting a job would probably have a small influence, on the youth's needs to empower themselves. Learn a trade or skills, get degrees, anything legal is good and if you put in your best, things would work out.

As a youth, we have to be thinking outside the box. The ability to reason well, solve problems, and the energy in you is for a reason, not for 100% fun. Now is the time to work, we can always rest and have maximum fun later.

Parent must step up their work, this isn't about punishing a child always. Every adult was once a kid and childhood is the best time to teach what they need to know. Put them in the way of God, and teach so they do not go astray.

Moral lessons aren't enough today, every parent must be on their toe. Who are the child's friends? What does he do when he is away from home? He is spending more than you are giving to him or her? What other means does he or she generate money from?
