Saturday was supposed to be a rest day but I was caught up in the heart of stress, I ran out of stock for fish feed so I went to restock. I went around the market because the price was too high, I noticed that only a few shops have stock so they decided to make extra profit.
I returned to my regular store where I do purchase from and I was told that they haven't received stock so those who had increased their price but they were expecting it. The shop owner called the driver bringing the goods and he said he would be there in an hour so I decided to wait but one hour became three.
I didn't know that sitting down doing nothing could make someone tired, I was too tired to leave and the store owner kept persuading me to wait because they won't be opening tomorrow and there is a big chance that the goods they are expecting won't go round to satisfy the customers demand so I waited patiently and the annoying part was that I didn't go with my android phone since I will be carrying loads, I don't want to damage the screen again.
The vehicle finally came around past five and I was able to get the fish feed before leaving the market.
While we were waiting patiently for the goods, a discussion came up due to what a man gave as a response to a question the store owner asked him.
To my understanding, the man's wife is the one who comes regularly to the store to get feed for their livestock. Since the man came himself, the store owner asked of her from her husband and his response was awful.
He said she is at home doing her duties, after all, women are meant to be at home cooking, doing chores, and caring for the kids. He sounded immature and I felt that he must have responded that way because they had disagreements.
The store is been run by a couple, the husband is a vet. He treats animals and sells drugs while the wife sells the feed, they are doing very well together.
The couples didn't allow him to land before they gave him the perfect response and the man felt embarrassed because he uttered rubbish about the female gender. Immediately he left, it became a topic of discussion.
Everyone started sharing their opinion, it became an argument at one point and I listened all through instead of contributing to the discussion because I don't have any marriage experience even though I hate seeing women been condemned to be house material.
The store owner decided to share their life story and I felt it was the perfect example people needed to know so that they can erase the traditional belief of women sitting at home doing just the house chores.
The couples attended the same university and started living together even before marriage, they were desperate to get married but their financial status wasn't desperate because the husband was the only one with a vet job. He treats people's dogs and gets little tips that weren't enough to pay their bills not to talk of starting a good life.
Whenever the wife came up with the idea of finding a job, he is not cool. Aside from insecurity, he said it made him feel not capable as a man and she was supposed to be at home cooking, doing laundry, and others.
On this fateful day, the wife took her results and went in search of work without the husband's consent. She eventually got a salesgirl job after days of going around but the man wasn't pleased with it and it almost led to their separation. She pleaded to do the work for just some time and will quit once the man got a job, their pastor interfered and he allowed.
She started the work and was earning less than $100 but she didn't let that discourage him since she could help the man and a few months into the job, she got pregnant. The early days were terrible but she didn't quit, she was very good at work, and one customer who liked her service interacted with her. She knew the lady had something in her head but there was no opportunity so she introduced her to a loan, they didn't meet the requirement because it was a huge sum of money but the customer helped them bypass some of the requirements since was a strong member of the cooperative offering the loan.
The couple got a small shop where the man expanded his vet business and the wife started selling animal feed with the experience she gathered from her previous workplace. They took things slowly, they got married after the first child and today, they are the biggest dealer in the market talking about anything that has to do with animals and they are using about 10 shops altogether.
Imagine if the man never allowed her to work, how long would they remain struggling? I am not saying the man wouldn't be capable forever but what if the woman's effort was the spark he needed to get his fire burning. Several customers waiting also shared their experience, in the end, they all agreed that females should be given the privilege to use the knowledge and skills they have got to support the family.
It doesn't have to end in the kitchen or bedroom, they are making an impact globally and you shouldn't restrict yours from having a positive impact on the family growth.
Thanks for reading.
Fishing and any other livestock farming requires much attention and tenderness but it can be frustrating if we run out of feed for them on a Saturday night and Sunday since dealers don't often open on these days. If possible you get more hands to lessen the work load
