There is a trend going on in the street of Lagos right now, I kept seeing it on everyone's status and I didn't understand what it was about. I wasn't surprised because Nigerians are good at promoting things they like a lot especially when the people involved have gone through a lot before finally getting the fame.
I didn't understand so I asked the social one in the family and he said that the word is a song sung by someone from the ghetto, he said the guy has been seeking fame for a long time and it finally came through this week.
He showed me lots of stuff from the guy's social profiles even though I didn't feel cool about him which was pointless because his longtime dreams have come to reality.
Success is something that many want but aren't ready to pay what's required for it, we see and hear stories about people becoming successful in the twinkle of an eye and many get wowed, lots of people would pray for such success but won't come close to achieving it because they can't continue knocking on one door for too long.
Becoming successful in life can happen suddenly but the certain thing is that there have been lots of unseen sacrifices and efforts that gave birth/ birthed to the result we are admiring.
Let me make two simple illustrations.
I am certain that we all would have seen a house we once admired due to its beauty, designs, and others. The same place where this structure was built was a once bush, it was clear and became an empty land.
The land was dug so that foundation can be made and a structure was been erected gradually, the plumbing job was done, electrical work, welding, carpentry job was done, interior designs, and many other things were put in place to produce the beauty we so much admire.
Whenever we see students doing great in their academics, everyone admires them and a lot of student wants to be like them as well forgetting that those students scoring good grades are studying well enough before they can achieve what they have got.
The result is what we admire but have we taken time to check what their life looked like before success came, what and what did they do?
Many of us claim to have people who look up to as role models but we choose them because they are successful, we try to imitate their lifestyle forgetting that they work hard to become successful, and someone a lot of people look up to as role models.
Every breakthrough story we see on the internet, on the TV, in our neighborhood, or anywhere didn't just happen like magic. There have been a series of attempts before one came through and it would be unwise for us to just think that one attempt pulled through.
It doesn't mean one attempt sometimes doesn't pull through, it does sometimes when you have prepared before shooting your shot.
The guy I was talking about earlier didn't give up on his dream of becoming a musician and he is paid off, today we sometimes quit after a few attempts towards our dream.
Don't get me wrong, not all dreams are worth trying over and over again. @Olasquare mentioned in one of his articles about someone who commented about not giving up on their dreams and he mentioned that some dreams are not worth wasting effort on because it is late at that point in life.
As long your dreams ain't too late, work hard and let nothing stop you from reaching them. Just like other breakthroughs motivates you to achieve yours, your breakthrough will also travel far and inspire others but we might never get the breakthrough if we don't keep trying every day to become what we have been trying to be.

Nigerians are pretty good at internet memes. A new meme is inevitable.
