A perfect place for tourism...
Nigeria is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the world, a country rich in culture and values that will always have unlimited exciting things to offer for tourism. I know some part of the world has different opinion about us but one thing you can't take away from us is our love for the numerous cultures practiced in the country.
Even as a Nigerian and despite living in the country, there are times I get blown away when I experience new cultural activities in the country. Nigeria is blessed with so much culture that makes it a perfect place for tourism and these cultures attract tourists from all over the world. I felt great knowing that tourist comes to the country to learn our culture, don't be surprised that many of the Nigerian cultures are practiced abroad today.
An experience I had some years back.
In 2016, I went to an event in Oshogbo. One of the places with vast culture in the Yorubaland, we spent a few days and our departure was delayed due to the festival that holds at the Osun river every year. I was surprised to see a great multitude, of people from different parts of the world that came to celebrate the festival.
The river goddess usually blesses people on that day and there have been testimonies mostly about barren women conceiving after the festival. I could see foreigners from afar with cameras trying to capture every moment at the festival, everywhere was completely shut down and I learned that they usually record up to a hundred thousand people in attendance, it would interest you to know that a bit over 10% of the attendants are foreigners who travel yearly just to experience the event.
Nigeria is one of the best places to come to have a feel of Nature, we are blessed with not just cultures but beautiful landscapes as well. The country has huge respect for nature and this has been rewarded with a mind-blowing landscape that would make you fall in love with the country.
Have you heard about the Obudu mountain resort? It is a paradise on its own.
It was formerly a cattle ranch but people came together and saw the potential of the place, it went through transformation and became one of the most visited attraction centers in Nigeria. It is located in Cross river, it one of the best out of the numerous attraction in the country.
A place where you have access to cable cars that can give you a good view of the mountains from the sky. Do you think you have the mind to walk on the 70m high canopy walkway swaying left and right as you take every step?
Canopy walkway
The place is fantastic, you have access to mountain hiking, large and mini waterfall, swimming, outdoor games, and awesome Nigerian dishes. The best part of it is that this experience is pocket friendly, you don't need to break the bank for having a great time in Nigeria.
How many more do I need to mention?
Is it the Eyo festival in Lagos? Fish festival in Epe? or Ikogosi warm spring where flowing hot water and cold water meet? You can't see a state without tourist attractions in Nigeria, there are unique and beautiful places across the country.
Abeokuta has Olumo rock, the safest place for the egbas during wars in the days of our forefathers. The indigenes hid underneath the rock during the war, it is a city on its own. The place has been modernized and thousands of people visit the place to learn about the culture and have fun as well.
Idanre hills, Ibeno beach, Yankari National Park, Erin Ijesha Waterfall, all these places are going to make you love Nigeria.
Erin Ijesha waterfall
You might be wondering why these places are trending in the tourist attraction centers in Africa or globally, the country's insecurity level is high, and it is the only thing that's keeping most tourists away from my beautiful country.
Idanre hills
It is not new anymore, the country is struggling with security challenges that don't guarantee to safety of people who don't know their whereabouts in the country.
Arinta Waterfall
There is nothing to hide about it, I believe one day the country would have a good grip on security issues and tourists wouldn't hesitate to fly in and out to enjoy the beautiful culture and places in the country.
