AGE IS A CHEATER: The old ones
"The weather is so hot, I can't feel my hand very well, the heat is many me dizzy, maybe it the drug given to me by that nurse, I really don't like it when I take her drug, it meant to make me feel better but its doing the opposite, I can't sleep well at night cause I always feel some presence watching me, like they are ready to snatch me away from my bed, I wish I have the strength to fight but I don't"
Said the 82 years old man on his sick bed, as I watch him fight for his life, he has been in that hospital for 6month without no one to take care of him except the nurse, he should be grateful he has such wonderful nurse to take care of him, anytime I wander home from class, I will go to the hospital to listen to what he has to say before heading home.
"Son, do you think my daughter would come today, it been a while she came over to see me, though she was born when I was very old, life hasn't been so fair to me, I got married at age 55, and we had her baby shortly after the married, things have been going well until recently, I can't just remember what happened or how I got here"
What came across my mind was question which no one can answer at that moment, you mean you have a child, and a wife, how come no one is coming to look for you, how did you get here, who brought you here, where is your house, I tried asking but the nurse asked me to leave, the old man was in no position to answer question, so I ask the nurse, how did the old man get to this hospital.

I asked the nurse how he got to the hospital and she said, a woman brought him here and never came back, many thought run through my head as I walk home. Age is a cheat, the more we grow old the less effective we can be, the faster we forget things, we began to lose focus, why does old age have to attribute itself to death, many old people fear death, I wonder if the old man is scared on his sick bed because he knows he will die some day.
Since it was weekend, I didn't visit the hospital, I was home helping my parent with their business, after all, that's was the business that is training me to school and I want to make sure I make them proud, the following Monday, on my way back to home I decided to visit the old man and see how he's fairing, I'm sure he must be fighting with the nurse again, because I could here noise coming from his ward, when I got there, I saw the nurse trying to push a young lady out of the ward, the lady would be in her 20s, I stood there shock as I saw the lady crying and screaming "father father, please wake up"
Was the old man dead, I don't know, his door was closed and we were asked to stay outside the room and wait until the old man wakes up, and if we aren't satisfied by that, we can leave and come back tomorrow, I decided to wait and do did she, I could see she was in pain as tears roll down her cheek, I couldn't even ask any question, not to just stay there and look at a helpless young lady in dismay, I asked her, "sorry if I'm disturbing you or the question I'm about to ask might offend you, who are you to the old man" she turned her face upward and looked at my face with tears in her eyes, and said in a low voice, "he is my father and I have been searching for him" I couldn't ask more question because of the condition she is, after 4hours of waiting the nurse asked both of us to come to his room, and he reason why I was invited to his room was because I have always visited him, the young lady called out to him and said "Baba mi" immediately the old my reply and said "my daughter" and they hug and tears started flowing down their cheek, I was astonished as I watch them, few seconds later tears rolled down my eyes too as I was unable to control my tears, I left the room for them, went home and told my parent about what has happened, they were proud of me, they have me fruits the next day and asked me to give it to the old man, I went straight to the hospital that morning, but to my surprise, I couldn't find the old man in his ward, at that moment, I was scared, I ran to the nurse and ask after the old man only for her to tell me he has been transfer to another hospital in the city on the request of his daughter, immediately I felt so pained, I was unable to give him anything, the nurse notice the pain in me and said to me, the old man said I should tell you, "son, thanks for always staying by me ever since I have met you, you really took the pain away most of the time when we spoke, I know you're young but I want you to use your youthfulness wisely and make the best decisions, I hope we meet another time or in another life" I felt relieve and went on my way to school. THE END.
This story you read just now is a fictional story written by me, I wrote it based on the old man I saw on my way from school with no one to help him cross the old. Sure I did help him cross the road
