As a daily writer, sometimes we are out of topics or there are instances that we have so many topics saved on our drafts but we can't finish it because we lack more details to support it, it is called writer's block, that will result in deleting those topics and we will be having a hard time finding topics to write again.
To aid this you can actually write in a free writing style, freewriting with any topics will do. You just have to think about prompts and set a timer for example 10 minutes or 20 minutes, just let your thoughts run within that period of time with your certain prompts this will make your brain think faster.
How to do freewriting?
Think about prompts- Prompts is the word you will use to widen your ideas about it. For example, your prompt is a magazine. Write down everything you had in mind about the magazine, what are the contents you read in that magazine, what is a magazine, and why did you come up with that prompt.
Set a timer- In writing freewriting topics you have to set a timer, this will make your brain think faster because your mind was aware that there is a time limit. That you will have to write faster, it was like you are writing an essay on the exams if you don't write within the time limit you will not be able to finish and will likely have lower marks.
Write down everything you have in mind- Do not mind yet about the grammatical errors and typos, just write down everything related to your prompt, let your mind run, and stop only when the timer stops.
Focus- In freewriting focus is highly needed since you have a timer you should not be distracted so your thought will not be lost. If you are distracted you will likely out of thoughts and end up your writing unfinished.
Edit when the timer stops- When the timer ends that's the time you will edit your writings from text formating, grammatical errors, and typos. You can also add headings on it after your time limits based on the result of your write-ups.
Make your prompt bold in the text or the title - In freewriting, you have to identify your prompt make it bold or just make it a title, this is to determine that it was the basis of your topic.
Indicate the timer, device used, and apps for the corrector- On your article indicate the timer you used, the device, and any other stuff you used while writing, for example, you used Grammarly.com, this is your reference that it was your freewriting articles.
Advantages of Freewriting
You don't have to think much about the beginning and the ending of your article, because it is freewriting. It was like you are just telling a short story without thinking too much about the proper introduction and a beautiful ending.
You don't have to research the details of your topic because it was all store in your mind. It is also not a formal article that needs some reference because it was all about you or about your experiences.
This will exercise your brainstorming ability as you are writing according to the information you have stored in your brain.
Disadvantage of Freewriting
Due to the fact that it has a timer, you will have limits on your writing whether you want to add more to supplement the topics you will likely cheating by breaking the time limit.
If you are not a fast thinker and slow in typing you will probably not be able to produce an article if you only wrote one paragraph.
I have some articles out of freewriting, especially during the freewriting contest that was hosted by wakeupkitty, she is good at freewriting that is why she was able to produce 3-4 articles per day. She thinks fast with a certain topic within a limited time. Try it and you will be amazed that you are able to produce a piece with a time span, you will be amazed how your brain works.
Here are some of my freewriting.
Are you out of the topic? try freewriting.
