It was the end of summer and few days to her birthday, but Lily wasn't having it funny at all and the whole place was becoming bored.
She just wasn't happy about her soon 20th birthday that was coming up in five days, just because she had never anticipated that she would be celebrating her 20th birthday without her boyfriend Jordan.
For some reason, Lily did not know, Jordan who was the love of her life no longer talked to her, he stopped calling her as he used to in the past two years of their relationship and always found excuses not to spend time with her like he used to.
This act from her boyfriend was frustrating Lily but any time Lily asked him what the problem was, he always made excuses saying he was busy at work and stressed out.
Lily knew there was something wrong because she was sure of Jordan's love for her the same way she was sure of her love for Jordan but she just couldn't tell where and when everything went down the lane that made Jordan avoid her like a plague.
She wanted to tell her parents about the problem going on in her relationship with Jordan but did not feel it was necessary to bother them with such issues but she wasn't taking it lightly as she was no longer eating like she used to and became withdrawn.
Although her friends had told her not to worry that it was just a normal stage in a relationship that two people go through and in no time, everything will be fine but Lily wasn't having it.
A day before her birthday, she came downstairs to see her parents making calls but she did not know why they were making calls and when she tried asking her, they told her whatever they were doing was in preparation for her birthday which would be coming up the next day.
She tried severally to talk them into letting her into their plans for her birthday, but they only told her it was a surprise. Even her friends were fully aware of this surprise birthday planned but none of them were willing to let in the secret.
She felt like talking to someone about her frustration and then the thought of Jordan creep into her mind but she couldn't call him as he has been intentionally avoiding her. She decided to go to her room and sleep off her worry.
She didn't quite remember when she was off but shewas suddenly woken by a happy birthday song played by her friends and parents. Lily was surprised and excited as well as she can not believe it was D-Day, the day she has been anticipating although not really as she was sure Jordan will not be with her to celebrate her birthday.
She thanked her family and friends and a beautiful blue satin long dress with a slit was placed on her bed for her to wear after taking her shower. She was surprised to see the dress as she could remember only telling Jordan about her love for that dress on a particular day they both went shopping.
She had a lot of questions but decided against asking as she did not want the thought of Jordan to spoil her day. She went into her bathroom, took her bath, dressed up, and peppered herself with makeup.
Lily looked so gorgeous in the dress, still admiring herself in the mirror, her friends came in and blindfolded her. She was taken to her backyard, although she was excited, she still could not understand what her friends and parents had planned.
They came to a halt and the blindfold was removed, being surprised was an understatement for Lily, as she was already flabbergasted and with drops of tears pouring down her cheeks as she stared at her boyfriend, Jordan on his knees in front of her with a ring proposing to her.
At her parent's backyard was everyone close to her, with different cloth spread on the floor, different cookies and drinks for everyone who came to celebrate with her. She just wouldn't believe her parents, friends, and boyfriend had planned a picnic on her birthday in her parent's backyard.
A picnic with a boyfriend on bended knees proposing to her in her backyard was never what she had anticipated as a 20th birthday but she was shocked and relieved to have gotten more than what she asked for.
She accepted Jordan's proposal and she enjoyed every minute of her birthday.
What a happy ending! All good thing will happen soon. All we have to do is be patient and keep the faith. It is frustrating and disheartening most of the time but don't easily give up.
