A weekful of.....

Apart from the fact that it's been a busy past week and a potentially busy week full of lectures, dissections, group discussions, assignments, projects, tests, stipple chases and of course....tiredness, last week had also been busy because I had to go start helping out my sisters who just got admission into the same university as mine with some work. We had to parade around the school together making me quit some of my scheduled plans just to get a hostel. This season isn't a very favourable one when it came to accommodation, both for guys and ladies. The matron in the hostel seemed to be a very annoying person because she keeps telling us to come back for the, part three weeks and tell at us whenever we come back and complain that we do not appreciate her efforts as students. Such a whiny old woman! She keeps making all sorts of excuses to escape attending to students who came to collect the hostel form. My main concern was for them to just procure a bed space because I can't squat them with the number of people (both room owners and squatters) already in our room.

I was happy today when they finally reported to me that they've gotten a hostel. I was in the Gross Anatomy lectures when I received a call from one of them and I thank God they were smart enough to have immediately proceeded with the payments if not once the spaces are full and you haven't paid, even if you got the hostel form, you'll have to find a place off campus..... or in the mosque!! (which is now even full) ๐Ÿ˜.

I got my hostel with very minimum stress because I am a returning student. Freshers are the ones who usually encounter this kind of problems, and in this academic session, the problems doubled or even tripled because they combined students from last year and this year that's like combining two sessions together!! so you can imagine. I do not blame them though, it was due to the lock down that happened due to the pandemic a year ago, which made us loose a whole academic year, thereby disrupting the circular of the school. Aside that fact, alot of students seemed to have passed the entrance exams making the rate of admission almost double, so they decided to admit only 60% from each session to avoid overcrowding. Can you imagine that in a department you can find up to 300-400 students? Don't you find that outrageous!!.

My sisters also got admitted into medical school and according to her, they are up to three hundred and something in their class. Guess what that means for them? When it comes to exams, they will try to at least half their numbers which means they will try as much as possible to withdraw alot of students to maintain balance, same goes for other departments I guess, but the condition in which the freshers are receiving lectures isn't very encouraging. Freshers are not been taken serious up to now because the school is still giving admission, and we are right into the sixth week of resumption so you can imagine! Exams(for them) starts in about 10-13 weeks time so in order for my sisters to meet up, I had to sacrifice some of my own time to teach them some physics, chemistry, mathematics so that they won't be left behind. Now that they are in the hostel, I feel so happy because we can meet at will, unlike when we were still roaming about in search for a hostel and at that time they had to be going home after every single lecture day, our home isn't near the school, the distance is quite great.

Generally things seem to be going slowly in school this session, not only for freshers, but also for returning students. We have 14 weeks for the first phase to finish but we haven't still covered reasonable ground. We have to study on our own in fprm of group readings, presentations and the likes. Just reading something you haven't been taught alone can be mentally draining.

There're also news going round that ASUU is about to embark on a nationwide strike (to my non-Nigerian friends, ASUU is an acronym for the Universities governing body) but I don't know if that's true. If that is to happen then I guess we're doomed. I've had some good news here and there but one can't be too sure, these people can do almost anything are good at surprising (shocking) us so whatever the case maybe I guess we all just have to watch and see.

Thank you for reading my rants today guys and I am very sorry for not visiting your articles. You can see how I have to shoulder other people's burden as well as mine. Anyway it's just for the time being. Once they catch up, they'll be fine on their own.

I also want to extend sincere thanks to my latest sponsor @ErdoV I am very grateful for the sponsorship. Same thanks go to all those who've been supporting me ever since my day one on read cash. Thanks guys and God bless you all.... And hey! Merry Christmas in advance to you all!๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

Yours Layly,

Glad to know you got accommodation sorted! Oh the joys of being a fresher, sounds like there are far too many freshers in your sisters class.

Far too many.. The session is indeed a daunting one, both for the school administration and the students. Being a fresher is really cool. ๐Ÿ˜Š

300 to 400 in a class? The premier University that's so sound medically doesn't take more than 150 students or thereabout.

But I understand the fact that the school had to admit two set together. And a big congratulations to your sister!!! It's a medical family ๐Ÿ˜

That's simply too much. But I am very sure that they know what they are doing. They won't even let half of them go through. They might be planning to reduce them by a half by the end of the session. And thank you for the best wishes to my sisters ๐Ÿ˜

Looks like your family is about to become a family of doctors, seeing as you and your siblings are in the medical field ๐Ÿ˜ I don't usually like staying in school hostels because of the stress of getting a space and also they tend to cramp more than 5 persons in a room and I am someone that loves my privacy a lot.

As for the ASUU strike, they can go ahead and do whatever they want. I am tired of heating threats of strike for he past few months, they should strike if they want to abeg ๐Ÿฅฑ

Yeah. Dad made us all love medicine right from a very young age. Staying in hostel van be very stressful as you said but it also makes a person more serious. We are also five in our room and I don't even stay in the room much to avoid things that might provoke me. I just eat, go out, read then come back to sleep when it's night...and yeah, ASUU can do all they want. Seems like they aren't going on the strike any more.

My dear friend. Hahaha. You have tried a lot. Thatโ€™s just school life.

I remembered when my brother was also taking around the s hook premises back then in his final year. But now itโ€™s all a story of the past.

Nigerian institutions are just so discouraging. Getting a hostel in my university is Either by connection or you pay an extra amount. And the capacity in our class is quite much. We are up to 1000 in our department. But for medical 300 is just way too much.

And Asuu. I pray they donโ€™t embark because itโ€™s a great delay to the educational system.

Hmm.. Seems like you had it hotter than I am having it now haha Honestly it's not easy at all. One just has to patient and endure some things. I heard that they won't embark on the strike again. I really hope it is true.

Yeah thatโ€™s it. Endurance is the best option. And letโ€™s hope for better days.
