I cannot but apologize to you all my friends for my unavoidable absence on this platform for the past two days (Saturday and Sunday). I would say that I was overwhelmed by the events of these two days which made me not find the time to visit the platform and especially your posts and comments. I wish I could make things right with my apologies, please find it in your heart to forgive me for my shortcomings. It is one of the things I battle with as a performing musician. I would try my best to continue sharing the love by sponsoring more people on this platform. Please, if I am yet to get to you, don’t be perturbed, I will get to you one day. I am on a mission to sponsor as many users as possible not minding how long they have been on this platform. With that being said, I will like to assume that I have been forgiven. Thank you so much.
Let us get into the business of the day. Just as it has always been my style of connecting my posts to reality in a bid to pass a message at all times, this one will not be an exception. You have heard from several places that Money is the root of evil, right? I will not want to go into any form of argument with anyone rather I will choose to state a very clear fact which most of us have neglected. Looking at the statement “money is the root of evil”, one would be tempted to either develop cold feet in making money or one would entirely avoid money as if it is a plague and most people will see it as a virtue worthy of emulation. The reason I decided to write this today is because of the incident that happened to me on Sunday the 10th day of October. Before I go into the full details about what happened, I will like this question to anyone reading this post. Is money the root of evil? You don’t have to answer the question rather I would want you to reflect on it just to have a better understanding of what I will talk about in this post.
The reason why we make money
I would not go into telling you the reason why you make money rather I believe that we all have one singular and important reason for making money irrespective of the fact that we may have a million different reasons. The number one reason for making money is; to live above poverty i.e. to have the basic human needs (Food, Shelter and clothing). Any other reason can still be admissible based on the individual want and preference in life. If you look at the above reason, you will understand that every human being needs these three things in life to survive. Now, the issue is this, how then can you be able to afford food, house and clothing if you do not have money? The temptation will now be to either steal or rob another person in other to achieve these three basic needs. So when next you hear that money is the root of evil, why not take a minute to understand what the statement truly means. I will tell you about my encounter with a client on Sunday which is why I chose to write this post today.
Don’t you have any need for money?
Ok, what happened was that I got a call from an old client who told me that his friend needed my services on Sunday and that he had already given him my number. He told me that he was going to call for us to discuss the details of what he wanted me to do for him. Now, after some hours, I got a call from an unregistered number and he told me that he was sent by my friend. We talked and after telling me what he wanted me to do for him in his church, he asked how much it will cost for me to be present in the program. After due considerations, I told him what I will charge but lo and behold he immediately said;
“I thought you are doing God’s work as a music minister, why put money first?”
His statement got me so worried because I found out through our conversation that he is the Pastor of the church I am meant to minister in. I was moved immediately to ask him;
“As a Pastor, Sir, don’t you have any need for money?”
I believe that my question came as a shock to him because he never expected such to come from me since I knew that he was a pastor.
It took him almost a minute to respond to me and in his response he said;
“I need money because I am a human being.”
When I heard that, I told him that I am also a human being that I need money and this Pastor now said;
“You know you should not put money before God because money is the root of evil.”
This statement made me angry because it became obvious to me that the pastor is the kind of man that will not pay you for service rendered to him. After all, he believes it was rendered in the house of God but he will not hesitate to pack all the offering and tithe money for himself. When his personality became clear to me, I had to excuse myself from the call because I would not accept such religious hypocrisy all in the name of not putting money before God. Even the Holy Bible supports that a labourer should be paid for his services. They may call it anything they like, but I want you to know today that money is not the root of evil rather, the unending quest for more money which leads one to commit atrocities for money. Working for an honest living is and should not be seen as evil.
Thank you for reading.
Davinchysax loves you…
Money is indeed not the root of any evil but people have taken disastrous measures to make money in life.
I have experienced your scenario before and it is one of the things my friends who play instruments avoid church work because the church doesn't want to pay to believe it is God's job.
