The mind: gate way to your spirit

Salut readizens. I am sure we must have heard of the word 'Mind' and know what it means (or atleast have an idea). So as to carry everyone along, I am going to attempt to define it.

The mind, according to Wikipedia, is:

the set of faculties responsible for mental phenomena. Often the term is also identified with the phenomena themselves. These faculties include thoughtimaginationmemorywill and sensation. They are responsible for various mental phenomena, like perceptionpain experiencebeliefdesireintention and emotion.

The mind is also know as the heart of a man (I do not mean the pumping organ situated at the cardiac area above the diagram, rather I meant it in a metaphysical sense)

To dive in a little bit. Man is a tripartite being that is he is a three in one person. He consist of the body, soul and spirit (I write as though we all agree to this. If not, please do your own research and get enlightened😊). He has a body which is the form with which he deals and partake in the physical realm. He has to have this body because without it, he can not effective interact with the physical realm. Even demonic spirits know this and strive to possess a person to be able to manifest in this realm. (Again, I speak as though you are convinced demons exist, if not, I advice you research and gain insight). I will take the last part which is the Spirit before taking the soul. The spirit of a man is the essence of his being. It is that breathing force in the flesh that is called MAN! The soul is my main focus for now. It is the very seat of emotion, though, reasoning, enlightenment and desire in a man. Infact, think of it as the feeling pot in man. Now the soul is also into three parts, namely: Emotions, Thoughts and Will.

Emotions

We feel and express our feeling because our souls as been equipped with the ability to carryout this function. The soul is the very seat of emotions in man. You can feel sad, happy, excited, anxious, lively, etc. That is why the emotions you feel comes from deep within you.

Thoughts

This is another section of the mind and one the greatest. Thoughts are unreal pictures or reasonings or imagination created and given life by the mind. You see, as much as you have to pay attention to your physical body, you need to pay the greatest attention to your thoughts, because your thoughts can either make it break you! The truth is, we are all products of some thought we had some things again. What I mean is everyone is a reflection of his past thought. Little wonder Jesus said 'the things that enters a man does not defile him but the things that comes out of him, for from the heart (mind) comes the issues of life'. He also said ' a good man is know by the content of his mind (thought)'. You are who you are by what proceeds from your mind chiefly your Thoughts. A man once said 'do you need a change in your life, change your thoughts'. Thought can create what doesn't exist and make it real so much to you that you will be afraid of that thing.

So, exercise your mind to always think of positive and pure thoughts. Taking note of your thoughts and equipping yourself with positive thoughts takes at least 80% of the mind exercise. You shouldn't just allow your mind wander into unnecessary thoughts that does nothing but create fear, pain, panick and uncertainties in your heart. Thinking and dwelling on unpleasant past experiences will only increase the perspitation of the heart and use up more oxygen and sugar in the brain leading to high blood pressure and other complications. So train your mind to remain calm and tranquil even in face of imminent danger. Never let your thoughts create bad pictures for you. Fear kills more than bullet at times.

Will

This is the final sector of the mind and it plays a major in decision making and conquering addictions. Now, the will, though being the most important part of ones action or proposed action, it is subjected to emotions and thoughts. To define it:

Will, generally, is a faculty of the mind - within philosophy, will is important as one of the parts of the mind, along with reason and understanding. It is considered central to the field of ethics because of its role in enabling deliberate action.

Let me clearly state that WILL is CHOICE. the choices one makes is dependent on a previously fashioned thought or imagination that is in response to a certain emotion or feeling. So your Will, which governs your actions, itself governed by thoughts and emotions.

Conclusion

Since the mind is made up of Emotions, Thoughts and Will, it is expedient that in our quest to train and exercise our minds, these three factors must be deeply considered. To exercise your mind can be done through;

  • Reading books. This will equip mind with the necessary amours as will help your thoughts to be more constructive and focused rather than be disoriented and prone to any imagine.

  • Control your emotions. As stated above, emotions are part of the mind, hence for it to be physically arrested that you really have control over your mind, you must be able to control your emotions. Your cravings, likes and possibly those things that easy get you beat up most be put under subjection. Dealing with emotions is not a day job, it requires practice, consistency, prayer and determination. Addicts usually find this hard to do. For example, a person who is addicted to masturbating, would find it hard t leave it when the feeling to get that pleasure arises coupled with thoughts and pictures from the previous act generated by his imagination. Hence, freedom from addiction is in three folds; freedom from the shackles of the feeling ( this is merely the first step and not so powerful), freedom from the thoughts and imaginations (this is where the hard work is done. It takes perseverance, determination, patience and prayers.) and lastly freedom of the will (this is the easiest so far the first two have been dealt with.)

  • Meditation. This method of mind training as been proven over and over again. You don't necessarily have to be a Buddhist for you to meditate. Find a quite place, sit down and start rehearsing all that you have read. Give your mind some work to do. When you do this make sure to consciously block any unwanted thought that may want to invade your heart.

  • Learnt to be quite at most times

  • Becareful of what you see and hear. Though it what comes out of a man that defiles him, but something must have gone in first! The more you see, the more you hear, the more you think and react.

  • Let the holy spirit help you. He is ever present to help and strengthen you in your quest to attain inner peace.

May the peace of God rule your hearts and help you to maintain a sane and pure mind. Amen

Our emotions get the better of us most times so it's quite hard to gain control over it. I speak for my self when I saw that my emotions often times makes have a hassle in decision making.

Addiction could really be a big obstacle in a person's life. It's very true that when a person's mental health is messes up, his physical and financial health would be pathetic

It is a real pity case. I have seen a persons achievement gone down the drain due to some sort of addiction. There is nothing as wonderful as having a stable and healthy mental health
