Too Salty or Too Spicy: Would you rather…

As a kid when my mother caught me saying bad words or telling a lie, she would let me eat red pepper as a punishment.

Of course no kid would want to eat that and I would always resist. I did not open my mouth but then she would forcefully have me eat the red pepper by crushing it in my closed mouth.

You may think that my mother was kind of cruelsome but no she was a disciplinarian.

Anyway don’t think that this post is another story of me being punished by my mother for doing foolish things as a kid.

This post is my entry for the Writing Prompt #25, Would you rather…

I was thinking of writing and publishing this tomorrow but I just remembered that I won't be able to do it because I will be busy for the next couple of days. So I made this quick post while I still have time today.

Just as I checked my notifications this morning, the Writing prompt first caught my attention so I went directly to Ms Jonica’s post and read.

Would you rather… is a simple but fun game and while I was reading it, words were already rushing in my brain trying to create phrases and sentences.

So I have chosen the, “Would you rather eat too salty food or eat too spicy food?”

Given the scenario above, you may think that I would rather eat too spicy food than too salty. But you are wrong. I like to eat salty foods. I always have fish sauce or soy sauce whenever I eat dinner or lunch. Sometimes my wife would nag at me because she thinks her prepared dish lacks salt. She would remind me that having too much salt in our body is risky to our health. Then I would respond to her that I am already aware of that. She would become more annoyed. But combining spicy and salty sauce makes it more appetizing.

I then ask my eleven-year old daughter if she would rather eat too salty or too spicy food. Her answer was that to eat too spicy food than to eat too salty because according to my daughter there is a higher risk of becoming ill when always eating too salty food. So eating too spicy food is okay with her.

I wanted to ask my son but he is busy with his online class but I know his answer would also be to eat too spicy food rather than too salty. Since he was a child I have already noticed his good appetite whenever eating spicy food.

When my wife came, I asked her too. Her answer was the same as my daughter. Of course she always knew the health risk of eating too salty food. But take note that both my daughter and my wife are not used to eating foods that are too spicy.

I still asked my son now that his online class is finished and he still prefers to eat spicy food. According to him he could endure more spicy taste on his tongue than too salty foods.

It’s quite fun that they gathered around me while writing this post.

So I ask them random questions from the rest on the list.

We were able to have fun for a couple of minutes with this game. And then they grabbed their own tablets and phones thereafter while I am finishing up this writing.

Anyhow this is my participation for writing prompt #25 by @JonicaBradley Would You Rather…

Papa used to discipline my sibs with res chilies before and it's quite effective that they grow up never using bad words or cursing. I'll choose spicy too

I'm so happy your family enjoyed these questions as well. That makes my day! I'm always happy when I see family spending time together. I prefer salty foods, too. My grandfather ( the one who lived in China and the Philippines) loved to put soy sauce on everything. Even his melons. My baby brother likes to drink soy sauce straight from the bottle and his daughter is the same. My mother loves salt and puts some in her hand and licks it. She actually needs more sodium in her diet because her blood pressure is always dangerously low. I do like some spicy foods, but it doesn't take much for it to be TOO spicy. My son loves things TOO spicy. He is so fair that when he eats spicy foods, he turns almost purple. LOL

thanks, i just remember when you said your baby brother loves to drink soy sauce, i also do that when i was a kid 😁. you know here in PH soy sauce is kind of saving grace specially with less fortunate ones. thats hard reality.

but anyway there are foods that are delicious when added with extra spice and in our place foods that are spicy hot is a trend like the "bicol express" which became popular and adopted by neigboring regions.

your son gotta be kidding me. 😄

He'll eat plain peppers. Raw or cooked with seeds. Like jalapeno and habanero peppers. I made a spaghetti sauce with too many peppers and he loves it. He turns purple, but he loves it. I can't eat it. My tongue will fall out.

For me,I prefer to eat salty rather than spicy because I can't endure the spicy taste for a long time, maybe I can't breath when the food was too spicy.Mostly, filipinos loved to eat salty foods just like having soy sauce in our food.

If you ask me, I would want to have salty than spicy. I am weak with spicy foods that is why even if I love Kimchi, I eat it in moderation

sometimes its a little frustrating when you crave for a food but cant eat more because you can hardly bare the spices. 😬😊
