Spend More Time With Your Kids While They Are Young

Do you still have kids at home?

I bet they already have their own tablet or old smart phone with them for playing games or watching educational videos.

Let me first share with you a short story about giving gadgets to our kids to play with.

The Sales Guy

A husband and wife went to a Gadget store to buy a tablet for their son. He got hold of a tablet that seems to be best for their child. After checking the device he then handed it to the sales guy and said he was going to take it. The sales guy then asked the husband if the tablet was for him. The husband then said it is for their son. But then again the sales guys asked how old their son was and the husband replied five. After knowing that the child is just five years old, the sales guy told the couple to come back and buy the tablet after seven years.

The couple was a bit surprised and puzzled. The husband was then like, what the heck? After realizing that the sales guy was serious, the husband asked why.

The sales guy then explained that the best time for a child to use a tablet is twelve years old. During the time that the kid is still young they should spend time with their child to get all the love and care from them. Otherwise their kid will become like a robot if they let them play with a tablet at a very young age.

I started letting my kids have their own tablet to use for recreation when they were six years old. But then I strictly reminded them to play games on it after they are done with their homework. But before I handed them their own devices I warned them about the dangers and health risk of prolonged use of tablets or Smartphones.

I was worried about my niece because she got used to playing with her mothers Smartphone, watching kids videos on YouTube at the age of 12 months.

These days’ kids are used to staring at the bright screen at a younger age. People know the dangers of tolerating their kids to use these devices but they seemed to forget about this.

Going back to a short story I have shared. The sales guys' approach was remarkable. Indeed we should take more time showing love and tenderness with our kids during those times. This is where intimacy builds. The close family relationship during those times is crucial so we should make it to attend to them. They might be happier with those gadgets but the human touch is lacking.

It is true that we cannot control the continuous advancement in technology but this technology will be the reason for our extinction too if not properly handled.

Since the pandemic arose almost all kids have consumed much of their time holding their tablets and Smartphones staring at it until the battery has completely drained.

My kids are almost grown up now and I can no longer limit them to using their phones and tablets as it is their main tool for learning. Nevertheless I am still reminding them when they tend to become forgetful.

 Anyway I need to make this post short before I can add more nonsense things about this topic.

We must understand that kids should need more human touch while they are young. If we can do this to our kiddos or younger siblings more often, that would be wonderful to know.

Remember that the more we give them gadgets to play with the more we build barriers between them and us.
