In the event that we needed something badly for something important, sometimes that thing didn't seem to cooperate.
Have you ever experienced when there is an emergency or a very urgent situation that you needed your phone but then the battery runs out of juice?
When you purchase a smartphone, what was your main reason for doing so? Or what are your reasons why you want that brand of the device?
What qualities of a smartphone do you want from a certain brand?
These days some people buy smartphones because of necessity. Back in the days owning a cellular phone was like a luxury but today people buy smartphones because they need them.
Although buying a high-priced smartphone to some is kind of luxurious.
What are your reasons for buying a smartphone? Disregarding necessity first, is it because the device is trending, or having a high-resolution camera? Is it the design that you want or the high-capacity storage like internal storage and RAM? Or maybe because of the battery that runs for long-lasting power.
What if there are cellphones that have a self-charging battery and never run out? Would you like to buy one?
Nano Diamond Battery (NDB)
According to California company NDB, they created a proof concept of batteries that can last for 28, 000 years.
Imagine if your smartphone never runs out of juice. You will never have to worry about finding your phone charger elsewhere. Unlimited supply of power like for eternity. How about that?
Nano-diamond batteries are made up of waste graphite used in nuclear reactors. The radioactive graphite is stacked up in several layers then enclosed with a tiny integrated circuit board. They added a small supercapacitor that collects the charge, stores it, and distributes the charge to the whole device.
This Nano-diamond battery is completely harmless to the human body and safe from environmental effects according to the NDB.
Imagine a tiny power generator inside your smartphone in the form of a battery.
Neel Naicker of NDB once stated:
"Think of it in an iPhone. With the same size battery, it would charge your battery from zero to full, five times an hour. Imagine that. Imagine a world where you wouldn't have to charge your battery at all for the day. Now imagine for the week, for the month… How about for decades? That's what we're able to do with this technology."
The concept of NDB batteries is not just for consumer electronics. The company also wishes to provide charity service to remote communities.
Dr. John Shawe-Taylor, UNESCO Chair and University College London Professor noted that NDB has lots of potentials to solve major issues globally like carbon emission, negative impacts of power plants, expensive infrastructure projects, and or energy transportation cost.
In the meantime, NDB has just completed proof of concept. The company was about to unveil its prototype but a pandemic arose and the labs were shut down. They will soon begin building their commercial prototype once labs re-open.
The company aims to release a low-powered commercial version in less than two years and in five years for its high-powered radioactive diamond battery.
What do you think about this concept? Will it revolutionize the power source? Share your opinions in the comment below.

That would really be awesome. There's no need for a hassle charging our phone if we have that. 😁
