A thief in the church
Hello everyone. Hope y'all are having a beautiful Sunday. I was just listening to my favorite program on radio by anchored by my favorite on-air personality when I heard a very shocking and unpleasant story. The phone and purse of a new member of an unnamed church was stolen during Sunday service.
It happened that there was a project that the management of the church wanted to execute in the community but they had been short of funds. So, they appealed to the members to help the church accomplish this good work through donations. This new member of the church wanted make to make a good first impression and came forward to put a certain sum of money in the offering box alongside other members of the church.
By the time he had returned to his seat, he discovered that his phone and wallet which he had put inside his bible on his seat were gone. This was rather unbelievable and he immediately alerted the pastor about what has happened. The young man became depressed as he had very important contacts in his phone that he couldn't afford to lose. He also had a number of valuable digital assets and investments which would be gone forever if he lost his phone
No need to mention that the presiding pastor was really embarrassed by the theft of the property of a new member. He literally knelt down in front of the congregation and pleaded that whoever had stolen the wallet and phone should please return it even if it means bringing them back after the service so that other members wouldnt know. But still no one said anything. The pastor burst into tears and even promise to offer his own phone and money to the thief if he would return the property of the new member.
Other church members who felt very sorry for the pastor and the young man also offfered very interesting proposals to the unknown thief but still the thief refused to reveal himself or drop the property at a discreet part of the church that was mentioned. It was really a sad day for the congregation.
Stealing in the house of the lord is nothing but an abomination which is capable of provoking God's anger, not only on the thief but on his family and lineage. I am very sure that the money in the wallet wouldn't last the thief for more than three days. The phone might also be haggled at a give away price by thief and the money realized still wouldn't take long before it is also spent. But God's anger would be with him for the rest of his days. Of course the thief might think himself smart but he never knows that his punishment is only been delayed.
I have always known that a lot of folks go to the church for various reasons rather than worship: some people go to church for exhibition such as flaunting a new dress or hairstyle(for the ladies) ,or showing off an expensive phone, perfume or a new car and other items that might make them the center of attraction in a place of worship. I wouldn't blame them though, its in the inherent nature of man to want to feel superior than the next person, even in the house of God. Some even go to the church with the aim of searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend and I don't see anything wrong with that either. Afterall, I believe that the house of God is about the best place to get a life partner.
What I find rather inconceivable is stealing in the church and I would categorise this worse than a sin, it is an atrocity.
Whenever I am in the presence of God, I find it hard to even notice how good looking or how beautifully dressed the next person looks as all my attention would be fixed at the man on the pulpit while he spreads the word of God . I guess alot of individuals also feel the same way too in the house of salvation. Unfortunately, some unscrupulous persons would exploit this to their advantage and pinch off the items of the worshippers. And how easy it is for them to do so since they know that their victims would feel very calm and secured in the house of God both physically and spiritually and wouldn't be as careful with their stuffs in other places.
As matter of fact, stealing in the church while service is going has become very common in alot of churches in my country and its quite sad that worshippers no longer feel safe in the house of salvation.
A thief might find stealing in the church very convenient too when he realises that God would always forgive him and might even pray for forgiveness before leaving the church. Lol, don't be surprised, its very possible, after all, Christ said " father, please forgive them, they don't know what they are doing". And believe me, this is a very popular bible verse that alot of evil doers know about. As a matter of fact, I have heard stories of robbers who go to church to pray for success before embarking on an operation. Some even return to the church to give thanks to God for protecting them throughout the mission. Its quite crazy I know, but it is what is .
