2 days ago I came to my teacher colleague's daughter's wedding party. Her daughter is holding a wedding party waiting for the groom's entourage. The party was very lively with around 3000 invited guests. The wedding party was very strict, my local custom and a little time-consuming. I want to share the story of how our custom is when waiting for the groom's group to arrive.

Enthusiastic when welcoming the bridal group to come

Things to look forward to at the wedding in addition to the delicious food served at the party. The arrival of the bridal group is also the most awaited because that is the highlight of the event. According to our custom, the family who held the party was ready to welcome the bridal party near a slap in which the betel leaves and gold umbrellas were neatly arranged, typical of my local bride's color.

Likewise, the newly arrived bridal group also has betel palms and umbrellas. Slap betel and umbrella on each family and then exchanged as a symbol of being well received and welcomed by the arrival of the bridal group at the place where they were having a party.

Welcoming the big family of the bridal group with a traditional dance

After exchanging umbrellas and slaps filled with betel leaves . The group enters and will be met with the bride's family who is already waiting. Stopped in the courtyard and they would sit opposite each other with their families. The two bridal couples and the parents of the bride and groom can't yet side by side.

There is a special moment ritual here. The two families of the bride and groom will be presented with a dance typical of my region, namely the dance to honor guests. The aim is that the bridal entourage that has been present is greeted with kindness and honor. Every movement in the dance has a meaning. And here all the invitees, including those present, were very enthusiastic to see this moment with the aim of seeing the dance and the faces of the bride and groom.

Giving gifts for the bride

As a groom, one of the obligations when marrying a woman is a dowry and then an offering. There are many offerings that can be given by the groom such as clothes, underwear, shoes, make-up equipment, and other necessities. Two families unite

After the guest honoring dance is over. Furthermore, the bridal couple will be united or met directly, meaning that they can join hands. What is done first, the bride will shake the hand of the groom or husband as a wife's devotion to her husband. Then the parents of the two families also shook hands with each other. Indicates the two families have united. Furthermore, the family of the bridal group will be invited into the house to eat the dinner that has been served.
