LAST shall be First, and the FIRST Last
Hey what's up readchamps! Today is Thursday already and one more day to go it'll be weekend again. Time flies surely fast.
Before anything else, allow me to express my sincere gratitude to all of your prayers for my sister full recovery I truly appreciate it a lot. And to our Almighty and Sovereign God who moves in a very mysterious ways I owe you everything My King!
At this very moment, let me share to you a very meaningful and life-changing content that I used as my main topic last Saturday during our devotional before our praise and worship team practice.
MATTHEW 20:16
16 So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen.
To tell you honestly, it took me a while to understand and meditate this passage deep meaning because if I take it literally, how come the last be first and vice versa? It's pretty confusing right? Not until, I heard a testimony from a friend of mine about his dilemma with regards to his complicated relationship with his older brother whom was college graduate since two years ago yet he can't find any suitable job for himself, while my friend who was just a college student in this current situation received a promotion already and became a branch manager in a renowned restaurant situated in Davao City. His older brother was not pleased by his achievement instead envy and pride reigned within his heart.
From that life story alone, my consciousness and perceptions about success was changed. I finally realized that not all people who graduated with a degree having prestigious academic awards or even just finished a four year course in college is considered to be a successful one. Life doesn't go that way let's say that you became a suma cumlaude in college does that mean you are fortunate, that you are the best among the rest? That you can be successful in the near future? Well, I don't intend to offend anyone who received any remarkable achievements because one of my proctors in college says that she had a classmate who became a cumlaude but unfortunately he wasn't able to pass the board exam due to the reason that he was not that serious in studying during the Let Review and preferred to depend on his own intellectual capabilities. Sounds sad but that's the reality. We must not lean and depend with luck or even in our selves alone. We have to undergo hardships and thorny stairs in order to achieve the peak of victory.
THE FIRST SHALL BE LAST...
This refers to those individuals who tend to be on the first spot but eventually they became last (they think highly of themselves). This kind of people are fond of making impulsive and hasty decisions. They take actions based on their emotions and thinking twice is not in their vocabulary. And due to their pride and the thirst to be on top they no longer think about the outcomes and consequences of their decisions. Eventually, when they found out that their actions and decisions failed right before their very eyes, they have to start again and weep into their mistakes.
THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST...
Obviously, this refers to those people who were cloth with humility and patience. They never make decisions without any second thought instead they asked God's approval and guidance before making a step into anything. They always filter out all their actions even though it would take them a while to attain their desired outcomes. They don't give a damn of being on the top spot, and has no intention to become one as long as they did the right thing. These individuals also are deeply rooted with the principle "SLOWLY BUT SURELY" and believes in God's perfect timing.
Author's Viewpoint;
I hope and pray that we will choose to be that person who preferred to be in the bottom patiently waiting for God to lift us high up, because the more we humble down ourselves the more our loving Father will give us favor and he will make a way for us towards success.
Lastly, in terms of our Spiritual Aspect let us bear in mind that serving God is not a race our goal of running the race of faith is not to merely finish, but to claim the eternal prize awaiting those whose hope is in the salvation.

Though I have a different take in the verse, I actually like your interpretation. π
