Life is difficult

It is true, life is totally difficult for everyone, but somehow we must overcome the obstacles that are in the way to keep moving forward and be better every day.

Welcome and sorry for the days of "rest" my dear friend, I wish they had been days of rest, well, I have not rested well, there are many light problems where I live and that has not let me enjoy the day much, nor rest well during the night, but I hope you have a happy day, sorry for my absence.

In the previous article I talked about how life has put obstacles in the way of people who today are millionaires, but were not before, and how they have defied these obstacles and have achieved success. In the previous article I talked about J. K. Rowling, in today's article I will talk about Elon Musk.

Elon Musk

A man who currently has a lot of money, has many companies, many ideas, who has been in the talk of the world today, is the person who is changing the future thanks to his ideals, but what do we think about this?

Many people think negative things and other people think that these changes are positive.

But... Where did Elon Musk suddenly come from?

This person that we didn't "know" until recently or well, wasn't really "important" until now, has been fighting for a long time to fulfill his dreams and move forward to have positive things in the future.

Many of us know that he is the co-founder of Paypal, SpaceX, Hyperloop, SolarCity, etc, etc.... Or maybe we just know that he is a "crazy guy who is creating rockets to live on Mars" or "he owns Tesla and makes weird cars that are electric".

He is currently the director of SpaceX, but how did he get here?

Was he always successful?

Was he always a millionaire?

Elon Musk, like many millionaires today, had to work very hard, have failures and keep trying his ideas to be able to achieve the success he has and yet he keeps on fighting no matter if he fails again, he will always keep on fighting.

Who is Elon Musk?

Many people will say that he is delusional for his ideas, even people he admires say so.

Elon Musk was born in South Africa and since he was a child he loved the world of programming, from a young age he was dedicated to study programming. At about 10 years old he learned to program and at 12 years old he sold his first program, which is a video game called Blastar.

Elon suffered a lot of abuse from his classmates at that time he did not defend himself. But then he started taking karate and judo classes, so he started to stand up for himself. After graduating from high school and without the support of his parents, he left home, but had to participate in the military draft.

He moved with his mother to Canada where he had to take out loans and get scholarships to study at university, as they did not have much money.

Elon got a scholarship to study physics and economics at the University of Pennsylvania. Despite the scholarship, he had to have a little more money to be able to save, so he and his partner would party on weekends at the house where they lived, with the price of the tickets he saved enough money to be able to pay the price for his second degree which was Physics.

After receiving his degrees, he enrolled at Stanford to do his PhD but after two days he dropped out to start his own company, as he had realized that the future was the internet. He had intended to work for Netscape, but because of his shyness he did not speak up to get the job.

Musk was inspired by Nikola Tesla, so he decided to study and explore the world of the internet, renewable energy and space.

Companies

• Zip2

The first company he founded was Zip2. This company he founded together with his brother Kimbal Musk and his friend Greg Curry. Zip2 managed the development, hosting and maintenance of websites. This was a business that anticipated what would become Google Maps combined with Yelp. In this first venture Elon did the programming and engineering, while Kimbal did sales and raised capital. Being an immigrant with a temporary visa and his brother an illegal immigrant in the United States, they were living in the office and when they got a little more money they bought an apartment.

He went on to manage more than 200 websites and in the end Zip2 was sold to Compaq Computer in 1999 for $307 million, but Elon only received $22 million.

• X.com and Paypal

X.com was the second company Musk founded, and one of the first internet banks. In this company Musk initially invested $12 million. This company had other founders, but after 5 months one of these founders threatens to leave the company and found another company if he was not the CEO, in the end this person left X.com.

Confinity Inc. was a cryptographic company that processed electronic payments, creator of PayPal. PayPal is combined with X.com, in this merger Elon Musk was appointed CEO for being the largest shareholder of the resulting company.

During this time Elon got married, but work did not allow him to travel, when he had some free time he managed to travel, but at that time an extraordinary meeting of X.com was held and as Elon was traveling they decided to remove him as CEO.

Then the name was completely changed from X.com and PayPal to PayPal Inc. Then eBay buys PayPal for 1.5 billion dollars in stock.

With the sale Elon made $180 million after taxes and put all his money into founding SpaceX, Tesla and SolarCity.

Complicated moments

In this article I will only talk about his first companies, since it is quite a long topic. As I said before he founded SpaceX, SolarCity and Tesla, actually he has founded many more companies, but according to my point of view these are the most known or the most named.

Despite all this, not only good things have happened for Musk, he also still has difficult obstacles he has to overcome, such as the large amount of money he invested in Tesla Motors, before the first delivery and the company went into debt as they had spent more than they had planned. Elon was almost bankrupt when his companies were not generating the money they needed and he was short of money, he had to choose between Tesla or SpaceX, to be able to continue investing money in his ideas, so he made a very risky decision which was to invest all the money he had left between the two companies, it was a difficult decision, because if he invested all the money in one company the other would be bankrupt, and if he invested the money in both companies they both might go bankrupt, but he had a stroke of luck and his companies succeeded, many people helped him including his brother, but also many people were opposed to his ideas and were fine with his companies failing.

At that time Elon was really bad, he had run out of money, he was going through a divorce, his rockets had not met their goals, he had already had 3 rockets destroyed and his cars were not selling as he had hoped, but despite all this Elon did not give up and kept going.

Final Words

Life is difficult for everyone, no matter where you are in the world, but tell me, what do you prefer..., do you want to be one of the people who work for their dreams no matter what others say or do you want to be a person who gives up his dreams because of the comments and mockery of others.
