If you believe in God, you must also believe in Satan. If you believe in the world of the living, you must also believe in the world of the dead. And if you believe in the world of the dead, the real ghost stories in India mentioned in this section are going to scare you a lot.

Everyone has heard one or two stories about some of the scariest places in India. Some people are brave, but the truth is that few of these stories are really ghostly and true. You might say it was because of circumstances, but there are terrifying reports, especially in local narratives, that confirm the existence of ghosts.

Old myths about the scariest places in India

Most cemeteries, castles and abandoned houses look scary to the public, but India's most famous conquered sites include school and hospital buildings, libraries, hotels, courts and subway stations. For example, Occupied places in Calcutta include a metro station and a library.

But the very interesting truth of these places is the core of their horror stories. These stories have been passed down from generation to generation, and horrific labels have been given to these places, which have become stronger over the years. Each Indian state has its own conquered places and horror stories. Let's take a look at these scary places and probably real stories about them.

Spooky stories in the West

  1. Bhangarh Castle in Alwar , the most famous site among archaeologists that proves the existence of conquered sites in India

Warning signs placed by the Indian Archaeological Society to ban tourists from entering the castle grounds after sunset show the true extent of Bhangarh Castle. And it is no surprise that this place tops the list of the scariest places in India.

Bhangarh Castle is famous in the world for its horror. The story of this place is that one day Tantrik Singhia fell in love with Princess Ratnavati. He tried to use magic to win the prince's heart, but the prince became aware of his evil plans and ordered his assassination. Before his death, Tantric cursed the inhabitants of the castle to death and the inhabitants of the villages to life without a roof forever. Today, some villages around the castle are still without roofs, and even if a roof is built for them, the roof will collapse after a while.

  1. Brij Raj Bhavan mansion in Kota, home of harmless ghosts

Brij Raj Bhavan, an old mansion built in the early 19th century and converted into a cultural heritage hotel in 1980, is one of the scariest places in India. It is claimed to be the home of the ghost of Major Burton, who was killed by the Indian Army during the 1857 riots.

In India, it is rumored that this ghost walks in the corridors of the mansion and sometimes slaps the guards who sleep on their posts.

  1. Kuldhara village in Rajasthan: An uninhabited village near Gislemir

This place is known as an abandoned ghost village. Kuldhara is located near Gislemir and has been abandoned since the 19th century. The village was established in 1291 by the prominent Paliwal family, who were known for their business intelligence and extensive knowledge in agriculture. One night in 1825, all the inhabitants of Kuldhara and the 83 surrounding villages suddenly disappeared.

The secret of the sudden disappearance of the people of these villages is very fascinating. A story about the love of Salim Singh, the then Minister of Foreign Affairs, is told to the beautiful daughter of the village leader. Salim Singh threatened the villagers with heavy taxes for preventing them from marrying the girl. The people of Kuldhara village and 83 surrounding villages decided to leave their homeland, and it is said that before they left, they cursed the place so that no one could live there after themselves.

  1.  The black sand beach of Dumas in Surat, only a few were left to tell their story

What is interesting about India's scariest places is the huge difference in their geographical location and nature.

People believe that because this beach has been a cemetery for a long time, the souls of the tortured live there today. Many visitors reported hearing someone talking while sitting alone on the beach. But these reports have reached us from a few and the rest of them never returned from their night walk in this place alive.

Strange experiences in the north

  1. GP block in Mirrhot, ghosts dancing

The GP block in Mirout is known for its many ghosts. Many locals have seen ghosts of girls in red clothes and men drinking outside buildings. However, it was not clear to any of these witnesses who these people really were.

These spirits disappeared whenever a brave person dared to approach them.

  1.  Cemetery in Dagshai

The people of Dagshai believe that not all ghosts in the scariest places in India are evil. According to a story, the pregnant wife of a British army officer who lost her life in an accident is buried here.

The marble statue of a woman with her baby in the cemetery has been blessed by a demon. There is a superstition among the wives of Indian army officers that a piece of the marble could give birth to a son.

  1.  Tunnel No. 33 on the Shimla-Kalka Railway, the hospitable spirit of Captain Barrow

Tunnel No. 33 on the Shimla-Kalka railway is one of the scariest places in the city of Shimla.

Captain Barrow, a British engineer, was responsible for building the tunnel but failed to complete it. Britain fined him and he committed suicide because of this humiliation.

It is rumored that his soul wanders in this tunnel and has friendly conversations with those who see him. Locals also claim to see a woman enter the tunnel screaming and then disappear.

  1. Charleville Mansion in Shimla, an abandoned fortress from British colonial times

The 100-year-old abandoned Charleville mansion was built during British colonial rule in India and rented in 1913 by British officer Victor Bailey and his wife.

But Bailey knew little about the place and only knew it belonged to a scammer. When he heard the story of the swindler from one of the locals, he decided to test the truth of these horror stories. So he locked the door of the room where the most horrible things happened. After a while, when he opened the door of the room again, he was surprised by the view, the room was cluttered.

Several other stories have since been told about the Bailey family and later owners.

  1.  The Savoy Hotel in Masouri, Agatha Christie was also aware of the story of this place

The ghost of a woman named Garnet Orme is rumored to have captured the Savoy Hotel in Masouri, where she was killed by adding strychnine poison to her medicine bottle.

Years later, his doctor, like Garnet Orme, was killed in the same situation. The story became famous and appeared in several books, including the famous novel by Agatha Christie, The Mysterious affair at Styles. That is why Savoy Hotel is one of the scariest hotels in India.

  1.  Delhi camp area, very scary at night

The Delhi camp area is a very clean and green place and a wonderful view to see in daylight.

But at night you have to be lucky (or unlucky) to experience the spooky and scary part of this area as well. Locals claim to see a woman in a sari suit asking for help and pursuing the car at an inhuman speed.
