Racist official Murder in US

In the Name of Allah the Most Beneficial the Most Merciful Massive protests have rocked no less than 350 cities in the US following the murder of a black man, George Floyd, by a white cop (Source: Economist).As at this morning. protesters in their thousands have stormed White House and continue to march in cities around the world even as the racist murder is greeted with deafening silence from western leaders with the exception of Canadian Prime Minister who joined protesters in Canada earlier in the week ( Source : RT, Al-Jazeera). President Trump had called the protesters thugs and threatened to call in the military. While the murder was committed by a state cop, statements and attitude of President Trump have also somewhat implicitly given it official signature. The Muslim community in US has been very active in the new anti-racism activism with Friday sermons dedicated to the issue around the country. The Council on American-Islamic Relations and The Muslim Network while condemning the murder also pledged to fight anti-black prejudice within the Muslim community( Source:5pillarsuk.com/ Religion News).

ANOTHER ISREALI RAID IN SYRIA: At least nine persons were killed during Israeli air raids late on Thursday in the Hama province of Syria- a central region controlled by the Syrian government (Source TRT) .For years, Israel has been conducting regular raids on Syria in the midst of the war with reports that the Zionist state backs some elements of Syrian insurgents.

PALESTINIANS PROTEST NEW GEO-POLITICAL ROBBERY: Palestinians in the occupied West Bank on Friday rallied to mark 53 years of Israeli occupation and protest against the Jewish state's plans to annex more parts of the territory contrary to International Law (Source TRT). Reports say that Israeli troops fired stun grenades and tear gas to repel protesters. Meanwhile, the Arab League has condemned the annexation plan as a war crime (Press TV) but didn’t lay out plans to stop the latest Israeli act of geo-political robbery.

FRANCE ADVENTURES AND INSTABILITY IN MALI: France said over this weekend that its military has killed al-Qaeda's North Africa chief Abdelmalek Roundel, a key fighter who its forces had been hunting for more than seven years, during an operation in Mali (Source: Aljazeera).It should be noted that French troops have been deployed in Mali since 2013 currently numbering up to 5000 but insecurity continues to worsen in the country especially in the last one year. Only last week at least 27 civilians were reported killed. This Friday massive protests rocked Mali with call for the resignation of the President ,Mr. Keita.The protests are being led by a leading Islamic scholar Sheikh Mahmoud Dicko who described Keita’s government as chaotic and incapable of tackling increasing insecurity( Source: Al-Jazeera).

RANDY RAPISTS ON THE PROWL IN NIGERIA: There have been reports in Nigeria of increasing incidence of rape across the country. The Jigawa State Police Command said it had arrested 11 men for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl in the state (Source Thisday).A University of Benin student was raped to death in a Church in Benin.(Source :Guardian, Daily Trust).Within 72 hours ,another lady by the name Barakat Bello was also raped to death in Oyo State.(Source: Muslim News).

OPEC AND THE PRICE OF OIL: The members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allied oil producers led by Russia have decided to prolong massive output curbs beyond the initially agreed two months. The 13 members of the oil alliance and 10 non-OPEC states held an online meeting yesterday ( Saturday) to decide the fate of the cuts, currently at 9.7 million barrels per day (bpd).(Source RT). All the moves are attempts to stabilize oil prices which had fallen below $20 dollars in the face of COVID-19 worsened by a spat between Saudi and Russia (Source RT).

COVID -19 PANDEMIC Restrictions are being partly lifted in many parts of the world as Covid- 19 infections reached no less than 6.7 million with death approaching 400,000 as at this morning according to multiple sources.

“RAID ON MOSQUE ILLEGAL”: Earlier in the week a High Court in Uganda declared as illegal a raid on a mosque by Ugandan police last year with an award of about USD $15,000 as damages in favour of the mosque authorities. The court held that the raid violated the sanctity of the mosque as a place of worship. The police had invaded the mosque in search of suspects in the murder of a Muslim cleric earlier last year (Daily Monitor).
