Welcome, month of May

Yesterday is the beginning of the month of May, the fifth month in the Julian and Gregorian calendars, and the third of the seven months with 31 days.

May is spring in the Northern Hemisphere, while autumn is in the Southern Hemisphere. The word ‘May’ is believed to have originated from the Greek goddess Maia, mother of Hermes (Mercury) and the goddess of prosperity and fertility. He oversees the flowering. According to Ovid, a Roman poet, May is derived from the Latin word 'maiores' which means 'elder'. May is followed by June, which is adapted for 'juniores' or children.

In the Philippines, May is the month of the respective festivals. It is also National Heritage Month.
