Rivals

Life has taught us some major lessons and whether we wanna agree to this or we fail to realize this, it doesn't matter cause the fact remains.
We often say we aren't in any competition with anyone but is that really the truth or it's just something we want to say just because we don't wanna be seen trying to compete with the next opponent?
Whether this has been your adage from time past or even up till now, the truth is you have competed with people since birth.
Right from that moment you were safely delivered and sent to planet earth.

We all had or have rivals, whether we like it or not or whether we choose to accept it or not.
And to make matters worst, most of our parents believe we should do better than the other man's child.
Their major objective sometimes isn't because they want us to be who we want to be or ought to be but because they feel and think we should be better than the other person, the next opponent.
That's why where I come from, you will hear a father telling or asking a child who did all his or her best to attain a certain height academically why he or she didn't do better than that or even surpass his or her opponent.

In primary and secondary levels of education, such a father would this statement " why didn't you come out as best graduating with the first position like the other person? Does it mean the other child has two heads? "
Though we joke about it but this is what true competition is all about. Trying to do better than the next opponent or even attain the same feat or height with that person and as a matter of fact, become rivals.

And if care is not taken, such a child would end up looking at everyone as his or her rival. He or she will grow up always trying to compete with another person and challenging them.
The greatest joy is being able to do something and doing that thing because you love to and you truly wish to do that thing and not because you are trying to compete with someone for it.

Life might not have been so fair to you but trust me, it has never been to anyone.
That you lose today doesn't mean that you will keep on losing all your life.
Take it easy and go easy on yourself.
You are not in a competition with anyone so don't create rivals for yourself.
When you see everyone as your opponent, you might end up messing your whole life, missing opportunities, and so on.
You didn't come into this world to compete with anyone.

Your goals and objectives are different from the next party and so is your destination.
Do everything you can to stay true to yourself and be the best you can be.
Always strive to see a better version of yourself for yourself and not for anyone or because of anyone.
No Rivals! Just You!

Still your baby girl ;)

My grandma used to compare me to my classmates who are well-behaved. She used to tell me that I should be like them and should compete with them academically. I didn't follow my grandma. I know I will not be happy competing because all I want is to learn at my own pace and not have those titles. I don't want to do good just because I want to be like the rest. I will do good because I know how to.
