Mountain Province After Ulysses

The sun shone at around early afternoon and was covered again by thick clouds today. Once in a while, drizzles of raindrops showered. But as of this writing (4:30pm), the rain stopped and left a gloomy atmosphere.

On November 11, I went to town though it's raining. From moderate rainfall to heavy windy one then it would go to light one. Along the way there are several landslides on the road but still passable. Evening came when there was an electric power interruption unannounced due to the tripping of La Trinidad -Sagada 69kv line. Am hoping that the storm would not increase it's strength.

Around 1am of November 12 after I have published my last article, I can't sleep due to the strong gust of wind whirling making a whistling sound together with the strong downpour. It also awakened my kids as the banana leaves at the back of our house were being whipped against our wall which made a rustling sound that frightened them. They thought it was some moomooo, but I have to assure them it was the storm passing. My eldest asked how long will it take for the storm to calm while the second asked why would Jesus not destroy it so that it would not shake our house.. They are more terified as I have put off the miner's wisdom flashlight we're using. I had to click it on again.

Storm warning in the Mountain Province was raised from TCWS #1 to #2.

From my window, that water at the river got high with an angry roll trying to get through those rice paddies, good thing the flood controls were made to serve it's purpose.

My mobile phone was drained of its battery life and I was not updated until earlier due to power outage which was until today. Many electric power lines were destroyed due to toppled trees or electric posts fell. The secretary of our barangay together with the barangay captain and other officials brought out the barangay's generator which is being used by residents to recharge their mobile phones, digital power banks and other batteries. Regarding power lines and electric posts, they were already being fixed by BENECO and MOPRECO.

Together with power outage was the shortage of water supplies. Some water pipes were damaged which needed immediate action to supply the residents water needs.

Heavy rainfall and strong breeze of winds caused creeks, rivers to rise. Because we are living along the river side that during the onslaught of typhoon Ulysses, you can here big stones rolling on the river bed. We are much fortunate in our place that the only effect of typhoons in the past up to these days are landslides on rice paddies and along the roads.

Browsing on facebook, I came to learn about the destruction of the typhoon with a maximum sustained winds of 155 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 255 kph. It has a wide circling area that it affects not only the Luzon part but also some places in the Visayas which were affected by typhoon Rolly.

Rain-induced landslides caused road slides all over the province effecting to temporary suspension of transportation to some areas. Fortunately, there were no casualties but some damages to properties caused by landslides and toppled trees.

This bridge at Natonin, Mountain Province was damaged partially.

Busa,Sabangan, Mountain Province

At Guinsadan Sur, Bauko, Mountain Province. Parked cars were damaged by toppled tree.

Designated Quarantine Control Point at Sinto, Bauko, Mountain Province, now damaged.

These were just some of the after effects of the tropical cyclone on our province. Thank goodness, the rain stopped for if not would create more havoc.

Sadly, in Summigar, Banaue, on the province of Ifugao, 12 were reported missing due to a great landslide which swept a house or some houses. As of this writing, 6 were already found. Hoping that the rest be found also.

Search, Rescue and Retrieval operation

On the rest of Luzon, mostly the southern part, flash floods were also reported wherein some had to climb at the roof of their houses.

I do hope that one day, our weather forecast would improve so that residents would be more prepared and cautious of incoming typhoons. An improvement that would be more accurate like that of places which will be likely to get flooded.

Tomorrow's another day

At 4:40 pm November 13, I was able to capture the skies which now begun to clear from those heavy clouds.

I can still hear the rolling stones even after few days after the flood.. And as mentioned, the landslide occured below our house. I am still thankful we are far more better than the victims in other part of our country.

It's really sad to see these typhoon after effects. Though we are still fortunate that we are alive and safe. Our life is what matters the most, those things and material possessions can be replaced over time. Hoping for everyone's safety. Keep safe mommy, and your family too ❤️

we're in Bontoc po.. no flood in here, tumaas lng tubig sa mga ilog just like the one in Natonin-another municipality ng Mountain Province. Landslides tlaga ang main problem dito sa amin pag my bagyo, lalo na sa mga road widenings. Naretrieve na ata lhat ng missing-that was from another Province, Ifugao.

Land slide pa din. It's as bad as floods ;;-;; baka mas malala, I'm not sure since I've only seen floods before. I just hope the proceeding storms won't even be that strong anymore. The country needs time to recover and super babad ng lupa so i can imagine so many more landslides if it doesn't stop raining
