Having A Degree, How Important It Is?
Education plays a vital role in getting us to a level we wanted to be or at least helps us make a name in society. Without education then maybe we still be living like that of the medieval times, only relying on natural resources for survival.
In the different fields like medicine, infrastructure, agriculture, law, politics and many more to mention it started with basic education. From that basic education until tertiary level to having a job that will eventually test our capabilities and abilities will atest how much we have gone so far.
Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to have higher education. Nevertheless, there are also those whose parents can afford their education but they chose not to pursue it or some reasons have hold them not to.
How important is having a degree really is?
1. Higher opportunity in acquiring a job. Having a bachelor's degree opens doors for job seekers. Let's take for example when hunting for job whether in government offices or private companies the number one requirement is graduate in college
Here in our very own place, the mayor required having a college diploma even when it is only for a job order for school maintenance of 1 or 2 months. He employs high school completers but a lesser opportunity when you haven't step college.
2. Skills acquired. Skills are acquired while in the process of acquiring a degree and truth is employers seek them in ones résumé. While one is able to land a job in line with his degree, he learns more of the needed skills in that field.
3. Able to have a high paying job. Let's get back on how degree holders are paid versus highschool completers. An example of this was a job hunter in the Municipal Mayor's office. She was hired because of what she wrote on her application letter- she was a nursing graduate. As what I have told earlier, our mayor requires and hires college grads. Then this job hunter was hired the second time. Later on, the person in charge of that clinic learned that the job hunter cheated. She faked everything. She was neither a nursing graduate nor a nursing student. The hard part was she was paid more than the one who only had 72 units in that college course.
What I am hinting at is, when one had a degree he will be paid more than the one who don't.
There are lots of advantages of having a degree aside from what was stated above. With a degree one can be able to secure his future and it in his personal growth and building his self-esteem and confidence.
The world is filled with cruelty, chaos and a life of competition. Having a degree is a step to a more competitive self. Of course there are those who are able to set up a good spot in society without having a degree and that is through their hard work, determination, confidence to get where they wanted to be.
Have you noticed that those who are able to graduate college, land a job and pursue their career are more respected, and recognise by their relatives and the community as a whole? Admit it or not, it is true. One is belittled, mocked upon when he ended up a student drop out. Sometimes, respect was even deprived off him. His thoughts and ideas doesn't seem to be heard and ended on deaf ears even when it was a bull's eye. However, it is stolen from him instead.
I ended writing this when my sister noticed how people treated her when she finally posted on her Facebook account about her graduation. She is 36 by the way. Our relatives on higher grounds started to talk to her which is shocking. In fact, they don't even bat an eye even when you meet them. And now, parang nakakatawa.
Our parents are able to send us to college pero dhil sa pagiging strikto nila kaya d na nkapagtapos bagkus ang pagrerebelde ang umiral. It was likewise with my sister. She could have finished her degree in time if she didn't keep on shifting courses. She took up Commerce, Education and nursing but didn't graduate after 4 years in college and got married. She decided to finish up her BEED after experiencing so much disappointments when looking for a job. Though there are lots of sacrifices along the way, she's lucky enough to have a very supportive and understanding husband by her side. At last, she graduated.
Having a degree has greater opportunities opened for one I must say. However, for a third world country like us our degree holders are leaving the country when opportunities knock. With degree or none it is still important na maging madiskarte sa buhay...
