Three plus two

On February, I made an article of being a new mother of two. I had mentioned on that article the two new addition in our family. Lucy and Marley a princess type shih tzu which was given to us by husband's cousin. I also mentioned the struggle that we've been through before they got used to our presence. Prior to that, we had a pet dog Yumi our very first dog which already stayed with us for three years. At first, the three of them really had a hard time of getting used with each other. They keep on barking for no reason until one day they got used to their presence and realized that there is no reason to fight because they lived in the same household. Until one day, we just saw them chasing and playing like they were friends before. It was really nice seeing them like that. Marley and Yumi were like bestfriend however Lucy on the other hand is a snob one. Instead of playing with them she would choose to stay away and sleep.
Little did we know, a month after of being with us, a big surprise was waiting. It was my youngest son who noticed that something is wrong with Lucy's tummy. It looks a little bigger compare to Marley. I really don't want to entertain the thought that she might be pregnant because she was just 10 months old. According to the vet, once the female dog got it first menstruation that happened every 6 months or more it is capable of being pregnant, but it is not advisable to impregnate her during her first mestruation that is why I am at first in denial to accept it.
A few days more came and I keep observing the signs and symptoms of being pregnant to our dog Lucy. One thing that I really noticed was that she always sleeps like a human pregnant and at the same time there was a significant change in her appetite. Before Marley eats more than her, but lately she eats more than him. Her tummy is getting more bigger and she gains weight too. Last week my husband and I took him to the vet to confirm our suspicions. The doctor said that Lucy needs to have ultrasound in order for it to be confirmed but he also advised that it should be after a week or two as we don't exactly know when was the time the mating happened. Dogs pregnancy can only last for up to 60 days or 2 months and on the 18th of this current month Lucy and Marley will mark their 2nd month with us. I was assuming that anytime next week, if Lucy is really pregnant she might give birth eventually.
Yesterday though, we took her back to the pet clinic to have her ultrasound, not only to confirm her pregnancy which is already really obvious because of her bulging tummy but to know how many puppies she is carrying. We arrived at the clinic around 5 in the afternoon, but due to many pet patients we have to wait for our turn that lasted for more than an hour. At long last, when it was already our turn the vet examined Lucy and confirmed right away the pregnancy. He got the ultrasound machine for animals and examined it thoroughly. We were just outside the clinic but we can see the ultrasound outside. My husband was busy filming it via cellphone. When it was done, the vet told us the expected due date which will be next week, between April 15 to 21. He also confirmed that there were two puppies inside Lucy's tummy. And lastly he strictly told us not to feed the dog too much so that the puppies won't grow bigger as it might be harder for Lucy to give birth and might end up in caesarian operation. Personally I don't want it to happen because firstly, on the expected due date, my husband might be already at work overseas, so the responsibilities of taking her to the clinic will be such a hassle. And lastly the operation cost will be around $200. That is quite expensive, so I just hope she give birth naturally since Lucy only got two puppies.
I am really happy and scared at the same time for the unexpected two new members in the family. I was just celebrating last February about the two new little buddies that was added to our household and next week, another two is on the way. I hope everything goes fine and nothing major problem will occur.
That's for today post. I missed posting yesterday because after going to the clinic, we went to my sister in law's house to celebrate her birthday. We had a little celebration that is why I was not able to write anything. I might also be busy in the next two days for my sons module. Ah but I will try my best to catch up with you guys. Once again thanks for reading.
