Let's use the wok again
As soon as Summer starts I am no longer in the mood for cooking.
My kitchen isn't more than a small hallway and it doesn't even have a window. This means cooking smells drift through the entire house and because the ceiling is low (no way I can stretch out I broke a great lamp by trying it once) the temperature easily rises.
Outside is no longer an option. There are too many flies but my fryer (French fries) stays outside. A neighbor once gave me his wok. He dumped it in his shed. It's an electric one and after I repaired it I started using it. It's placed on the top of my washing machine which means if the machine runs I have to take it off.
The great thing about a wok is whatever you fry in it it's ready to eat in a short time.
Turkey is on the menu. No, I am not used to eating turkey. The only reason I bought it was because there was no chicken available. Turkey doesn't taste the same and I find it hard to make it taste good. Perhaps red wine or Port makes it tastier? Turkey cooked or fried too long tastes like a rubber or like eating a shoe. The structure of the meat has more in common with pork than chicken.
I told one of the children to cut the turkey into pieces while I did the dishes and opened the bag with vegetables.
I do not like carrots but this bag with mixed vegetables is cheaper than buying them separately plus a part of what you see the shop doesn't even sell. If you might wonder ... Those colorful vegetables are frozen and you do not need to defrost them first. If you do that it tastes like vinegar. You are warned (probably a reaction of the chemicals they added to the bag).
A great thing about this electric wok is the use of oil isn't needed. I used oil, sunflower oil.
The chopped turkey goes into the wok and I add some salt. Smaller pieces would have been better because it takes longer to fry turkey than chicken and my time is precious.
After a few minutes, I add the vegetable mix.
The wok has a lid made out of glass and I put it on but it brought me nothing. As you can see there's a small hole made in it but no steam comes out.
It's not a smart idea to leave the lid on because frozen vegetables contain water and if you leave it too long on it your food will swim in a pool of water. With li,d it's defrosted a bit faster. If you use fresh vegetables you don't need to care about water pools.
I stirred a few times and added some soy sauce. That's it, even a kid can do it.
We ate it just like this. No rice, no noodles.
Needed for fried turkey with vegetables:
- wok or pan
- turkey (chicken tastes way better)
- salt
- vegetables: carrot, leek, bean sprouts, peas, beans, etc.
- soy sauce
No wok? Use a pan it works fine too just a bit slower.
Wow it look taste perfect..thank for sharing this kind of for.. Godbless
