Has someone ruined their life for travelling the world, I just read on the internet when I typed the prompt 'world travel'.

I didn't read this question, which may have been asked on a forum. It does make you think. My first reaction is: how can a travel ruin your life? People can do that, your own actions can do that, an accident can, but travelling itself or travelling around the world?

What happens to someone always happens at a certain time in a certain place. At least that's the case with me. One minute you're fine, the next the world seems to be falling apart. Not the whole world, but the small part of the world I live in. That part of the world is usually the emotional world and has nothing further to do with the world in which we live.

My life has never been ruined, although all my travels have not always been without problems.

Something will always happen that you don't count on and it doesn't matter whether you travel in your own country or abroad. I myself keep expectations low and maybe that also ensures that things don't disappoint so quickly. I count with waiting and waiting and make sure I have something to eat, drink and do with me. As soon as the holiday season starts, many people are stressed or they collapse while travelling and come home with a burnout. I think vacation should be relaxing. It is meant to unwind after months of hard work. So it is better to do nothing than to book an active holiday or to travel around the world if you cannot afford it physically, mentally and financially. Not everyone can travel the world with a quarter and travel is a hassle these days. I've always kept it simple. Travelling light is my style. A small backpack is enough to carry the essentials. My experience is that it does not matter much whether you travel around for a midweek, a few weeks or months. If I really need something, I can always borrow or buy it.

Has my life ever been ruined or has it ever felt that way?

Yes, of course. I had a difficult childhood, a hard life and was attractive to scammers. Family, friends took advantage of me in every way. Believe me, your life is ruined if you have to pay off other people's debts, if everything is taken from you and you have to start over again and again. When this happens over and over, it's time to take a closer look at yourself. Nice, helpful people attract profiteers. As soon as you learn to say 'no' you will first fight but after that your life will become a lot easier. It is true that the profiteers, the swindlers scold you and want nothing more to do with you if you refuse to let yourself be abused, but for me it was and still is true: I would rather be alone than feel lonely and miserable between people who look down on me and are not real friends.

I refused to let my life ruin and looked for solutions. I can tell you this feels good. Once you have found a solution to the problem, there is light at the end of the tunnel. This may be a long-term solution, but it's always better than feeling like your life has been ruined and there's no way out.

For many of us there would be a way out if we dare to ask for help.

Strangely enough, we rarely do that and if it is to the wrong people. I know from experience that it is more often the 'strangers' who reach out to you and have a listening ear than family and friends do. Keep this in mind if you think your life has been ruined and there is no way out. I will be the last person to force anyone to live on when there is nothing left to live for or when you have already done everything in your life, but if you need help then look for those solutions. They are here so don't give up too soon. There are (anonymous) phone numbers you can call, sites where you can get free advice or help. Dare to ask and stand up for yourself and if someone helps you then put in the full 100 percent and show that you can be trusted and that you are worthy of the help given.
