Chocolate custard brings the right spirit
In which country most chocolate is eaten? They say it's in the UK but if that's true is hard to tell because in the Netherlands generations grow up with chocolate sprinkles on their bread and 'chocolate clay (chocolate custard). Those days that chocolate, hot chocolate was meant for royalty only are over for since long. Everyone can lay his hands on chocolate although the taste and quality aren't always great. It depends on where you live, the amount -the percentage of cocoa- whether it's allowed to be called chocolate or not. This doesn't necessarily mean a high percentage stands for a better taste. The quality of the cocoa used plays a big role and so does the amount of sugar and of course the taste you are used to. If it comes to the food people like in general it's the diet they grew up with.
There's no need to say chocolate gives energy, it makes people feel better, and it boosts the mood. I grew up in a country where all kinds of chocolate desserts are made out of milk. The most famous one is chocolate custard. It's sold in packages of 1 litre and not expensive at all. If it comes to it it's cheaper to buy it at the supermarket.
My grandmothers bought it in a bottle made of glass. The milkman stopped by every day.
My children like the homemade custard more and it's not difficult to make.
The ingredients needed:
1 litre of milk
5 tablespoons of sugar
5 tablespoons of maize/corn starch (Yellow package on the photo. This product is used to make the custard thicker. Use more if you like to make a pudding instead).
2-3 tablespoons of cocoa (depends on the quality)
If you like whipped cream.
How to:
Mix cocoa, sugar and maize/corn starch with a bit of the milk (a few spoons) while you cook the milk.
Add everything to the rest of the hot milk and stir until the custard gets thicker (low fire because a burned custard isn't tasty). This will take you a few minutes.
Put the chocolate custard in a bowl.
Beat the custard with a whisk till it's cold and it will also look fluffier plus it prevents forming a skin on the custard.
Chocolate custard is a simpele dessert which you can easily give a more luxury look and taste by adding whipped cream with chocolate sprinkles/grated chocolate on top. You can also carefully spoon whipped cream through it I've it's cold. This variant of chocolate custard is sold by supermarkets these days as well.

The chocolate custard looks delicious, but my favorite is the banana custard.
