A Miraculous Fruit - The Soursop
Scientifically known as Annona Muricata. The Soursop is a fruit of tropical origin, possessing numerous healthy properties, coming from a tree called Soursop. Its origin today is somewhat dubious, some say it is native to Peru, while others claim it comes from Colombia, because in this country, there are many varieties of this fruit. However, in some South American countries there is a tree of this exquisite fruit.
According to historical data, the soursop has more than 1,200 years of antiquity, have been found in the Chimu culture, ceramic pieces where they represent the fruit, and in 1636 the Spanish chronicler Bernabe Cobo, wrote: "Its flesh is white inside and yellow in some, a lot of juice something sour, and its seeds are like pumpkin". And so the European Conquistadors were fascinated by the Soursop, for its smell and taste, to such an extent that they decided to explore other places, to see if such a mysterious but delicious fruit also existed. It is worth mentioning that this fruit was only born in South America, until the Spanish decided to export it to Europe. It was one of the first American fruits to arrive in the old continent.
It is worth noting that the Soursop tree is about 10 meters high, and the fruit it produces is green with thorns. It can be used in different things: Infusions, Juices, Desserts, Foods, Alcoholic Beverages, among others. Its chemical composition, from the Soursop, makes it a very interesting and miraculous fruit, to the point that it is used to treat problems of the immune system. Scientific studies assure that the extract of this fruit has the capacity to fight against cancer cells and does not affect healthy cells.
It also has Vitamin C (For every 100g that we consume of the Soursop, we will be obtaining 20 mg of this vitamin), and Vitamin B (Essential for the nerves). We also find an interesting richness in Calcium (14 mg), let's remember that Calcium is very necessary, for bone and dental maintenance. Apart from what we have already mentioned, this without end of benefits for the health. Other qualities that soursop has are: "Its leaves in infusion help to treat nervousness and insomnia. They are used to treat flu, fever, excessive coughing, and even in some African countries, they are used to deliver babies".
