A thick fog dawned all over Serbia this morning, making driving difficult, visibility reduced to about 200 meters.
You need to be careful and drive carefully, and read 10 tips on how to drive safely when there is fog.
On the road only if you have to
Fog usually descends early in the morning and in the evening around the area near rivers and lakes. So, if you can choose, try to avoid driving at that time of day.
Reduce speed
Adjust the speed to the condition and conditions on the road. This practically means that you should drive in the fog at a speed at which you will be able to stop in front of any obstacle when you notice it.
Increase the distance
In conditions of reduced visibility, such as fog, keep a greater distance from the vehicle in front. This gives you more time to react in case of unforeseen circumstances.
Drive in the middle of a traffic lane
When moving through thick fog, use the center line and the right line of the road edge as landmarks if it is marked. In order to avoid vehicles from the opposite direction, as well as pedestrians and cyclists moving along the right edge of the road, try to always keep the vehicle equally away from those two lines.
At intersections extra caution
When you approach the intersection, lower the windows and listen to the traffic. This is a good way to know if you can get through it if the visibility is so bad.
Watch out for ice
When it is very cold and the fog descends, count on the fog to freeze easily and very quickly on the road so that in just one moment the surface can become very slippery. Therefore, when driving in fog and slippery roads, drive the vehicle without sudden and hasty movements.
Four turn signals and a stop
If the fog happens to be so thick or you just can't see where you're going, it's best to park your vehicle by the roadside and of course turn on all four turn signals so that other road users can notice you. If the fog is so thick and visibility is reduced to a minimum, you need to keep all four turn signals on while driving to be more visible.
Turn on the glass heaters
As fog can create moisture, feel free to turn on the glass heaters and use wipers to ensure the best possible visibility.
Fog lights
Certainly one of the most important things is fog lights. If you have them on your vehicle, use them, because they are placed low and directed downwards and wide, which is the only solution in fog to illuminate the road and prevent dazzling other drivers. Never drive with high beams.
Turn off anything that might be bothering you
Turn off music, cell phone, or anything that will distract you. In the fog, the most important thing is your full attention.
