“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,” this is the most familiar golden rule. Like compassion, we seek to heal others even when we are unable to cure ourselves.

Is compassion natural or learned? what do you think?

Do we all have this instinct to help others in our different ways? Naturally, we are compassionate people because even to tittle things like plants, animals we are compassionate, and most especially to people that need us.

To be compassionate is the genuine feeling for another person while they go through life's ups and downs. This doesn't mean just telling someone that you care about them, but also showing them that you care by being there for them before they even ask. There are many people we like, even love, yet the deeper meaning of our compassion for them is shallow. Perhaps we feel fear, jealousy, resentment, guilt, or anger. Each of these emotions has a certain attachment that prevents us to be compassionate.

I, myself have gone through this, I will think twice to do so for some reason. Yes, we are only compassionate to those people we knew, but it's a wonderful feeling when we reach out to others. Blessed are those who have compassion for the less fortunate people because it gives meaningful connection and improves ourselves to do good to others. The value of compassion enables us to understand ourselves better and others better, and the more we understand others the more we will want to relieve their suffering. Let's all develop the ability to see things from someone else's perspective and sympathize with their emotions.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Ephesians 4:32

Very insightful post. Compassion requires authenticity, it is something that comes from within, and not some switch you can turn on or off. To be compassionate, one must first be aware of what is around them, the people, situations, circumstances. It is hard to truly be compassionate if we are full of ourselves. Compassion, after all, is being able to show concern and sympathy for another.
