Agoraphobia is a type of specific phobia, which is the fear of crossing bridges, usually due to the fear of heights. It is an anxiety disorder when a person has an excessive and unrealistic fear of open spaces or open, public places.
This type of phobia can also be called bridge phobia, and it's different from the fear of heights. The term "bridge" refers to any structure with two supports on either side that crosses over something else.
The word agoraphobia is derived from Greek “agyrós” meaning “bridge” and “phóbos” meaning “fear.”
In ancient times, some people thought bridges symbolized death because they crossed over rivers and other natural obstacles.
Agoraphobia is also the irrational fear of crossing streets. This is a specific type of phobia called agoraphobia which is a specific type of anxiety disorder. There are two types of agoraphobia:
1- Agoraphobic avoidance, where the person avoids places or situations where escape might be difficult or embarrassing
2- Agoraphobic panic attacks are accompanied by intense anxiety.
It is a type of social phobia that can be caused by a traumatic event, such as a car accident. Agoraphobia is different from the more common fear of crossing streets, which is called “pedophobia”.
This is a type of anxiety disorder. A person with this kind of disorder fears crossing over bridges or other structures without support from the ground.
Some people with this disorder might also be afraid of tunnels, heights, or enclosed spaces like elevators. This can be a big problem for those individuals and they may want to get help from a professional therapist to find ways to decrease their fear.
Agoraphobia is the fear of crossing or standing on bridges or in tunnels. However, this fear may be reinforced by experiences such as a car's suspension being damaged while traveling over a bridge, or by witnessing a tragic accident on a bridge.
One famous man who has agoraphobia was George Washington. He refused to cross the Delaware River until it was frozen, which made it safe for his army to cross.
This is usually called “pantophobia” or “angstsprengung” in German.

There are many treatments for agoraphobia that people can try out. One way is to work with a therapist or psychologist who can help you process your feelings and teach you ways to cope with your fear through different exercises, treatments, and therapies.
One way to get rid of agoraphobia is through exposure therapy. This therapy can include gradual and controlled exposures to the person’s fear, with their safety constantly being monitored by a trained professional.
Another way is through desensitization which gradually weakens the upsetting stimulus (agoraphobic stimulus) to decrease anxiety levels. This therapy can include gradual and controlled exposures to an object, place, or situation that produces fear. The safety of the person will always be monitored by a trained professional.
It's hard to get rid of the phobia because it has its roots in some kind of trauma or bad experience, but there are ways to get better. So if you are a victim of such a phobia, now is the time to uproot it and free yourself.

Phobia has lot of kinds and shapes where people falls in. No one trap purposely but yes some mental illness draw some phobias. My cousin can't step up in open stairs which has gaps between steps.
