To make your home safer for your children when you are not around:

1. Keep unsafe products out of reach and locked up. These include cleaning products, household chemicals and medicines. Keep medicines in containers with safety caps.

2. View the world from a child’s level. To find potential hazards, get down on your hands and knees to see what a child might see. Place breakables, small objects and cords for curtains and window blinds well out of reach. Tie loose electrical cords out of the way and if possible hide them. Remove any poisonous plants. Regularly check the floor for small objects that could be choking hazards.

3. Use safety devices. Put safety plugs in unused electrical outlets. Install safety latches on drawers and cabinets. Use safety gates (non-folding) for stairs.

4. Consider furniture placement. Keep furniture a child might climb on away from windows. Move unstable furniture out of harm’s way.

5. Keep emergency numbers and place them in visible places like paste those numbers outside the refrigerators. List numbers for the child’s doctor and other important numbers like the barangay council and local risk reduction management officer.
