"Hell is empty because all the evils are here!" William Shakespeare
There are natures in the world around us that we describe as paradise or a piece of paradise because they are so wonderful and beautiful, but have you ever heard them describe the attraction of a city to hell? This attraction is located in Turkmenistan and is so scary that it is known as the Gate of Hell in Turkmenistan. I will introduce this attraction to you more. (maybe all the 'evils' came to our world by this gate. :) )
In the province of Akhal in Turkmenistan, there is a gate that the locals call Jähennem derwezesi or the gate of hell. The Gate of Hell is actually a very deep and large pit that burns constantly in the fire, surely you are wondering how such a thing is possible. In response, in 1971, former Soviet explorers decided to look for them in the Karkum Desert, a major source of oil and gas. They were actually looking for oil when they accidentally reached the gas field and decided to extract gas from this huge and rich pit.
The equipment they used to do this fell into a large pit in an accident, which, although it did not harm the researchers and the people who worked there, but the methane gas that leaked from it, also for the health of the environment. And the people there were harmed.
Under these circumstances, researchers and scientists had to look for a solution to prevent the toxic gases from escaping, they decided to throw explosives into the pit so that all the gases would catch fire and burn within a few days. . They did, but it did not happen, and the gates of hell in Turkmenistan have been on fire for 40 years now.
The Gate of Hell in Turkmenistan is 20 meters deep and about 5300 meters wide, it has a large opening with a diameter of 70 meters. Every year, many tourists from all over the world travel to Turkmenistan to see this attraction. The heat emitted from this pit is so great that it can be felt from a distance of 50 meters from the edge of the pit, and it is said that at this distance, the temperature of the heat that reaches the surroundings is about 55 degrees. It is Celsius!
Although Turkmenistan's Gateway to Hell is one of the country's most attractive tourist attractions, its destructive effects on the environment and humans cannot be ignored. Imagine that this pit has been burning for 40 years, and so far it has emitted an insignificant amount of gas, which is both harmful to human health and warming the planet.
Turkmenistan's Gate of Hell severely damages the country's gas reserves. In 2010, the Turkmen president ordered the pit closed, but it never materialized.
