2019 was a huge year for AMD or as fans call it the RED TEAM where they introduced their CPU and GPU line products which are the Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs and the NAVI graphic cards where they set a high bar for their competitors Intel or the BLUE TEAM.
AMD is striking again in 2020 in the tech industry but this time not in desktop CPUs but in the mobile CPU and GPU products with the intention of removing the crown from Intel dominance in the mobile field too. Some of the products are going to be released in the first quarter of this year and some in the second quarter .
So without any further ado I'm going to introduce you the new products that AMD going to release this year.
1-AMD Ryzen 4000 mobile CPUs:
In this year's CES AMD introduced 3 types of mobile CPUs which are the 4000U, 4000H, and the 4000PRO
P.S AMD just introduced the pro series but they didn't give us any details about it's characteristics so I'm not going to talk about it in this blog.
Ryzen 7 4800U:
As AMD claims, this mobile CPU is considered to be the world's highest-performing ultrathin laptop processor with 8 zen 2 cores and 16 threads, up to 4.2 GHZ boost clock and 1.8 GHZ base clock, 8 Radeon cores but what really catched my attention is the power consumption of this CPU which is 15W TDP as the picture below shows.
This latter was compared with the Intel I7 mobile CPU and guess what it was faster than Intel’s Ice Lake in single-threaded tasks, and far more capable in multithreaded tasks.
Ryzen 7 4800H:
This one have a desktop caliber performence for gamers have the same characteristics as the former except in base clock which is 2.4 GHZ and 45W TDP
The ryzen 4800h was compared to an I7 9th generation mobile and a 9th generation desktop CPUs and this latter demolished them as the picture shows below
Those two CPUS were designed to preserve battery life and as AMD claims you can utilize your laptop up to 10 hours which is amazing.
2-AMD RADEON RX 5000 SERIES:
In the GPU lineup we have the the RADEON RX 5500, 5600, and 5700. The first and last GPUs where introduced last year, the 5600XT is going to be released this year.
Radeon RX 5600XT:
If you are a gamer who wants to play games at max 1080p AMD have you covered the RX5600XT is the one for you its built on RDNA architecture, has 36 compute unit and a 6GB of GDDR6, it delivers 25 percent performence per clock increase, up to 50 percent performence per WAT increase and it is said to perform between 10 and 20 percent faster than an Nvidia GTX 1660Ti. This GPU is going to be available in January 21 for $279.
3- Threadripper 3990X desktop CPU:
The 3990X is in a class of its own. This beast CPU sports 64 cores, 128 threads, and a total of 288MB of cache. It has a base clock speed of 2.9GHz, and a boost clock that reaches as high as 4.3GHz, we will need to wait but in AMD's own testing this latter pulverized Intel's best, all of this specs for $3,990.
for more information you can watch AMD's conference in the link below
AMD failed to release a 6w laptop cpu again. Therefore, no passively cooled, cheap (but fast) AMD based laptops can be manufactured ever. A Pentium N based laptop is typically costs $300-400, they can support 1080p screens, 8 gbyte RAM, two integrated sata port a disk drive/ssd and dvd writer, and they can operate up to 7-8 hours with one charge. The Pentium N has 4 core, the speed of the cpu equals to a core2quad. Despite the cpu only eats 6w, its still capable to do some moderate gaming on it with modern games, when running the games in low settings.
That segment is continued to be dominated by Intel Pentium N and Intel Celeron N-s. Probably 99% of users would buy something like this, and AMD basically fails to ship a single product for this market since decades. Probably this is the ONLY class of computers people are still buying in masses, because people dont buy desktop pc-s or strong laptops in notable quantities any more. AMD is creating products for a non-existent market, both with they cpus and gpus.
