At a special event at the Cannes Film Festival, a black carpet was laid in front of the Palace of Festivals and Congresses. This was done in memory of the victims of the terrorist attack in Nice. Gathered at the event, they observed a minute of silence in honor of the victims. The event itself replaced the traditional Cannes Film Festival, which was supposed to take place in May, but was canceled due to a pandemic. Instead, a three-day special event took place, already described as an "act of resistance to the coronavirus." Unfortunately, the events in the shortened version of the festival were overshadowed by the news that three people were killed by an Islamist attack in a church in Nice. The mayor called the incident "another terrible Islamist attack". He explained: "Of course I am afraid, but that is exactly what the terrorists want. We must therefore ensure a cold determination to eradicate this plague. "
During the three-day shortened program of the film festival, 4 films from the main program, short films and films by ambitious directors were shown. The jury awarded the Cinefondation award for the student film program and the Golden Palm for the best short film, which was awarded to the Egyptian director Sameh Alaa for the film "I'm afraid to forget your face".
I didn't know about the black carpet. I am terrified and scared of terrorism.
