Record Guinness Official Attempt-Day 3

As I was thinking and putting my ideas in order, I got a feeling I didn't remembered: The first time I got to travel. I was 12 when I got the opportunity of going to a different country and the fear I had was out of this world. It was a good fear though, fear mixed with excitement, because from that moment on my life wasn't going to be the same anymore.

I can only imagine, but I bet that's the feeling many of the kids who were part of the event felt and still feel, I mean, how many people can say that they were part of the Worlds Biggest Orchestra? It's a life changing experience, one I'll cherish forever.

Day 3

Saturday started just like Friday, an early wake up and lots of people tired and sleepy. Only one thing changed, the breakfast was provided by the hotel, Arepas Arepas! They were filled with lots of Ham and Cheese an paired with some Orange Juice. Of course, my sister and I got our coffee and by 8:30am we were on the road.

The ride was smooth, no traffic jam or anything and we were one of the first delegations to arrive to the place. Now, the Organizing Committee had to give each of us some sort of ID to be credited as on of the Twelve Thousand musicians attempting to break the record. It was a bracelet, orange for Strings, violet for Winds and Percussion.

Now, just like the day before, we got our meals, our water, our masks and then got scanned by the accredited company for Guinness World Records.

A 5 hour wait was ahead of us, and lots of sun. I used my time taking care of the kid that was with me, an eleven year old oboist fron my town. I made him a celling with our sheet music stand and my scarf, I didn't wanted him to get sun burned like I did.

All came dead silent when the rules for a valid attempt were mentioned:

1.- All participants must have experience as musicians in their respective instrument and must be lead by an experienced conductor.

We all had from 2 years to 50 years of experience in our respective instruments so, we got that one.

2.- Every participant has to play their instrument non-stop throughout the piece.

Apart from written silent bars, we couldn't stop playing, otherwise we get disqualified.

3.- One participant One instrument.

There is a rule we have in orchestral culture, which is the following: if by any chance, a string or a reed or an instrument from a partner breaks during the performance, the last one of the road gives their instrument and a rotation occurs. This was overruled, if that happened during the attempt you had to keep playing no matter what and could not exchange instruments with anybody.

4.- The piece must last over 5 minutes.

The current record is held by Russia at 5 minutes I don't know how many seconds. In order to break the record, we had to play longer for it to be a valid attempt. March Slave lasted over 10minutes.

Now, we did a little rehearsal to secure the order of the programm, but because the entry lasted too long, we couldn't complete it, we had 5 minutes before the event started. There were drones everywhere and the military band performed at the foot of our flag, this signaling the beginning of it all. The Twelve Thousand were ready to make history...

At that point nobody was tired anymore, no one was complaining of the sun and the heat, we all centered and focused on the goal ahead and started to perform. It was sublime, the energy that we put in the air was sufficient to light a whole stadium, an by the time the last note sounded, a long B flat, we bursted in tears laughter and joy, for we had finished the official attempt to break the record.

After a long celebration, we played Handel's Hallelujah rejoicing about our accomplishment, the First Finger Merengue to dance, Venezuela for the heart and soul, Alma Llanera for the pride of millions of Venezuelans in and out our country, and the National Anthem, because our land is great and nobody can take that away from us.

I'm so happy for you that you were at such a great concert. I have no doubt that you now have a lot of emotions, and what memories ... I think they will stay for life)) I watched the videos on the Internet, watching the musicians, it was obvious that they are high from what they do. And it was very cool! P / S: I think your bunny, will be a nice memory that this record is broken))

The bunny is our friend Jemi, a gesture from all of us because she could not join us, so we attached her name tag to the bunny and took it with us, to show her she was there in a form or the other. She cried, it was lovely πŸ’•

If the record was 5 minutes and only Slave march is 10, they just doubled the record. It fills me with joy and emotion to see this group of musicians, I hope that with this the professional level will rise even more and that it will not be used only for politics. Our Musicians are Valuable is demonstrated. Congratulations

Oh Frank, I only hope that the children that participated in this event have the motivation to keep going and believe the life of a musician is worthwhile. I'll leave politics to the politicians, I can tell you this though, none of us were thinking of that, we enjoyed ourselves and our music, and gave our country a shine of light on a dark hour.

I mean that politicians always use this type of event to promote themselves and then forget about the event, I hope that does not happen and give them the real value they deserve all those who participated with devotion.

Haha, we have talked about this a lot, and we are aware of that possibility, "Our country is doing great, nothing is happening here, blah blah blah". But we cannot stop our work and worse, disappoint the kids that have their hopes in their music. We cannot stop living and doing the best we can for the country. Politicians come and go (hopefully the current ones leave soon) , and we'll still be there, that's the strength of El Sistema.
