Did you know that Halloween was originated in Ireland?
Well, I did, who says that watching TV doesn't teach you anything?
Samhain was celebrated between October 31 and November 1, and marked the end of the summer and the end of the harvest period in Ancient Celtic Culture. They all gathered around big fires after burning their empty crops and danced and prayed for the sun not to leave completely during the winter solstice, and also, just because the end of one period and the beginning of another, they believed that spirits returned to visit, so many of them dressed up with costumes to avoid being possessed or attacked, pretty cool huh?
According to the web, there can be many reasons why Halloween has a dark tone, although through the years and the marvels of commercialization and marketing, is a very beloved holiday and also a very creative one. There are pumpkin carving contests, best costume contests, decorations, trick or treating in every home, and some parties are legendary. Nevertheless, it's still an inspiration to some horror stories throughout time, some paranormal and some just plain psychotic.
Well, since I have never celebrated it I don't have stories to share with you, but, I found something interesting to share that might be related to the dark tone Halloween has.
I'm talking about a personality test that determines how dark is your core.
It's a fact that all human beings are capable of wonderful things as well as awful ones, like they say in my town, you'll never know where the rabbit it's gonna jump, and humans are like that, you never know what's happening inside a persons mind or what a person is capable to do until they do it.
Fortunately, there are psychologists and psychiatrists who have studied these things in order to give people a clue as to what to expect from others and from themselves.
My little sister showed me this page, IDRlabs, where she and her friends all took the test and shared and commented on their results. Some of them are darker than the others and they took it several times to change it, just hilarious. Then I thought, maybe I'll do it, let's see how much darkness I have.
First, the page is serious, or so it seems. It says that there's a team of specialists behind the test and an explanation of what a Dark Core is. Then you are instructed to slide from the center to the left or right according to the level of your answer, if you agree or not with the statement.
After you answer the 45 questions of the test, the page gives you the result in percentages of each trade that was evaluated. There is Narcissism, Psychopathy, Self-Interest, and of course, your Dark Core.

My sister and her friends were saying that I'm a Saint, but I told them to take it easy because this is not an indicator of what you really are. I'm not a specialist or anything but, as in everything, there is a chance this might get it all wrong, so, for me, this test, in particular, is just about having a little fun or maybe an introspection time, but not to take it to heart, just enjoy it and have fun.
