What is Gene therapy?
Hello Wonderful Read dot Cash Community: Happy Weekend!
What is Gene therapy?
Germ line gene therapy and Somatic gene therapy are the types of gene therapy. A portion of the DNA is transferred to somatic cells, such as dormant cells, in somatic gene therapy. Ex-vivo refers to cell manipulation outside of the body followed by transplantation back into the body. In this procedure, the genetic material from the patient's blood or bone marrow is gathered and multiplied in a lab. In-vivo is another type, where the genes are altered while the cells are still inside the body. In contrast, germ line gene therapy involves inserting functional genes into the germ cells that will later be integrated into the genomes. The impacts of this will be passed down to the patient's children and succeeding generations, changing the DNA of that generation..
On the other hand, Germ line gene therapy is where the functional genes that are to be integrated in the genomes are inserted in the germ cells.
The major issues that stem cell therapy for medical purposes may bring about as a result of unknowns and hazards during the course of the treatment are, in my opinion, one of the perceived dangers and ethical concerns. The use of embryonic stem cells is another matter of ethical concern. Because it involves interfering with or, in the worst case scenario, destroying a potential human life, it looked unethical.
