In this article I would like to share with you my knowledge about Human Resource Management, its definition, uses, objectives and a phrase related to it.

1. Define and differentiate human resource management from personnel management.

Human resource management is all about people such as recruiting, hiring, deploying, motivating and managing an organization's employees. While, personal management involves maintaining the quality of the workforce and bringing the employees together. In doing so, they will do their best to contribute to the organization's goals to reach its success.

2.) “Human resource management is old wine in a new bottle”

The phrase "old wine in a new bottle" is a metaphor which means an existing concept or instruction offered as through it were a new one. According Storey (1995 cited in Arstrong, 1999 p4), "Human Resource Management is a distinctive approach to employment management which seeks to obtain competitive advantage through strategic development of a highly committed and skilled work force, using on array of culture, structure, and personal technique." It means that HRM have an old strategy in managing people that changes over time, they improve their strategy to fit in to reach the success of their organizations. For example a company is old wine (there are no changes and improvement) but if they hired or recruit right people for the right role they will become new (they will be able to reach their organization's goals). As the strategies changes, so must HRM strategies and policies.

3.) How can the objectives of HRM be achieved?

The primary objective of HRM is to ensure the harmonious relationship, stable work environment of the employees, staff and other people associated with management and organizational goals. Also, there are other objectives that HRM should be achieved; these are;

  • Achieve organisational goals, the HRM function starts here because it is very important to know the main reason in managing people. For it to be successful, HR should require planning and implementation.

  • Work culture plays an important role in defining the HRM performance. Having a healthy relationship among employees will create a positive vibe at the workplace.

  • Team integration, one the role of HRM is to make sure that employees should coordinate and work together without any conflicts. Connection between individuals is important to ensure productivity.

  • Training and Development, effective performance will be achieved with proper training, it also provides learning opportunities to the employee.

  • Employee motivation is one of the strategies to make the organization successful. By motivating employees in any means, the productivity throughout service will surely increase because they are satisfied and fulfilled. Also workforce empowerment, retention, data and compliance are included.

Conclusion:

The scope of HRM is extensive and far-reaching. It caters different strategies that can be uses in reaching the success of an organization. Also, having and managing the best people will lead the organization to be more profitable, create brand loyalty, increase productivity and do better work.

HRM can be a critical part of a business. A successful one can determine a businesses success. Hiring the right people can make a big difference. Attracting them and giving them honest expectations will go a long ways to. I've seen different hiring strategies over the years. From only HRM, to only supervisor, combined HRM/supervisor, and even panel hiring boards. My experience is HRM has to be involved to prevent corrupt hiring. Once again the soon to be graduated student comes through with another good business article. Take care Joyce
