What is the thing that reminds you of home comfort? How do you know the Christmas holidays are coming?

For me it's the baklava. Probably because as little ones these baked goods are made when a holiday is coming up. Baklava itself brings only good moments in my heart, so I decided to make my family happy with it.

A friend was visiting me for an evening and we both managed to create miracles.

I searched the internet for variations of this baklava we made, but I found one just like ours. There is a double cooking moment about it. One time it's baked and a second time it's basted with boiling butter resulting in a second browning/cooking.

The ingredients we used were:

  • 1 packet of thin crusts (400 g)

  • 500 g sugar

  • 200 g ground walnuts

  • 2 tsp cinnamon

For the syrup:

  • 250 g butter

  • 1 kg sugar

  • 1 l water

  • vanilla

First we made the filling - we mixed the walnuts, sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.

Layering the baklava we made it 2 layers of crust, 2-3 tablespoons of filling. This continued until you ran out of filling or the height of the pan. Our baklava was supposed to make more layers, but the pan turned out very shallow.

Once the filling is finished, place 2 layers without sprinkles on top. Cut into a convenient shape. We cut it into diamonds.

We baked in a preheated oven at 170-180 degrees for about 40 minutes.

Just before it was ready (golden crust) we started making the syrup. We added the sugar, vanilla and water to a saucepan. With constant stirring on low heat for about 5-6 minutes, the syrup was the perfect thickness - a little thicker than water. We then took the baklava out of the oven and put the butter to heat. And it was ready in about a minute. We use an induction cooker and things happen very quickly there.

We poured the hot oil over the baklava, and you could hear it sizzling - secondary cooking, that is. And immediately after that we poured the sugar syrup over it.

We covered it with baking paper and a towel to make it like a "smother" and let it stand. In the morning it was ready.

You can read and check more my article in Hive blockchain and to see how I've cut the baklava. https://ecency.com/hive-120586/@projectmamabg/girls-night-or-how-we
