On busy day, I like to cook 'Bak Kut Teh' (Hokkien language). Bak = Meat Kut = Bone Teh = Tea Is basically cooking the pork ribs in a soup infused with herbs, I used the pre-packed herb spices. Usually, I will add in a lot tofu puffs, button mushroom, one whole garlic, Enoki mushroom. Add the last boil before serving, add somemore lettuce for the greens. Best served with rice. Yums! #Food

We had one-hour quietness doing our watercolor art. I find myself immerse in peace when I do art. Thank God, the boys are the same. My letter for Noise-rs, "We have been through a lot last year and this year. If you are reading this, I want to say thank you for being awesome, to pull through the hardest obstacles, to continue stand up eventhough you feel like giving up, to keep shining even at times you feel like you have no rays left within. To keep showing up eventhough…

I told my husband several times that I missed hanging out with him. It had been months of just handling the kids and being the 'manager' at home, I wish I could just go out strolling with the hubby. Today, we took the opportunity. Two hours of hanging out together, but totally felt so good. We went out to get cakes for tomorrow's son's birthday, as well as delivered some cakes to families nearby whom my son wish he could celebrate his birthday with (but we are in lockdown).…

He used to be hesitant in blowing candles. NOW, he blew all 7 candles in two seconds because next-up would be the time to open presents. Jansen has grown up a lot in these 7 years old, more so in the past year. We can foresee a thoughtful, kind and smart gentleman in-the-making. Despite the on and off bouts of discomfort at his abdominal area, he has the faith in visualising himself without the feeding tube anymore, without the pain, going to school and making a lot of new…

Today, I woke up feeling so laid back and couldn't think of anything to cook. Times like this called for stir fry mixed vegetables - my saviour menu! Just use whatever vegetables in the fridge to dish this up. Stir fry is always easy to cook, with oil and garlic and some seasoning (I love oyster sauce the most and mushroom seasoning), it will be delicious. Presenting today a lazy-cook dish😁. I somehow love the colours. Add in fishballs for the kids. Serve with a bowl of warm…

I had a random thought, if you are free to engage with me. ~~~For those who had been to college or university or special field school, do you end up in a career of what you studied/graduated? Like me, I had a Degree in Science (specialised in Biology & Chemistry) but I ended up as a stay-at-home mom. Hahaha. Before that, I worked part-time as ice cream seller (New Zealand Icecream🍦) and tutor as well as working at church full-time. Nothing to do with my field of study. Have…

My first time cooking chicken fajitas and to my amazement, it is sooooo easy. Why I only find out today? Gee.... Just seasoned the chicken breast with a little bit of white pepper, black pepper, salt, cumin, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano (thank God so happen I have all these), pan fry both sides of the chicken. AND THEN, take out the chicken breast to slice them into slices, toss in the vegetables using the leftover oil in the pan. Done! In the wrap, you can…

Today is another noodle day! 😊 Went out and bought this because I miss my hometown at Sarawak. This is Sarawak FooChow 面 aka 'FooChow Noodle'. Basically, the noodles are charred first before being added into the savoury broth made from chicken/bone broth with soy sauce and oyster sauce. Usually in the noodles will also have vegetables, fish cakes, meat slices and prawns. Every mouthful with a dip of sweet chilli sauce - - - yummyyyyy!!! Slurp... #Food

Another Sarawak dish which I missed a lot, Foochow Fermented Rice Noodle dish. We called it 'Zao Cai Hong Ngang'. Am I speaking alien language. In Chinese is 'Zao cai feng gan' (糟菜粉干). The SECRET ingredient is the meat soup broth cooked using the FERMENTED MUSTARD which is being fermented by red rice wine residue. It gives the sourish tangy savoury appetising aroma which lures your taste buds to want more. Hence, I always finish the whole bowl of soup. If my husband orders…

Saturday is always a busy day for thorough cleaning, so usually, I don't use my phone a lot. Now that everything is done and I have time to check in here a bit. Hope you all are fine wherever you are. 💖 We had home BBQ steamboat which we ordered from restaurant nearby. It is our way to show support. We are still in 'lockdown' and many food businesses are affected. In order to survive, this steamboat restaurant will have food delivery, including the BBQ steamboat pot and the…

Good morning, beautiful world!🌍🌹 The son woke up extra early today because he will have online test later. He used to be not nervous about it, but reaching 10 years old, he starts to get nervous, I am not sure why. I told him, "Nahhh, no worries, try to take deep breath and tell yourself it is like another game, every game we will need to fight that level's boss. Correct! Go have fun 'fighting'." He told me he knew I was trying to comfort him, but test and game is different.…

What on earth am I doing? I just hired a new plumber - that's ME! I spent the whole morning figuring out how to fix my toilet tank which fill up water soooo slow. Watching videos after videos to learn, found out it is the inlet valve. Scoop down underneath the toilet bowl and unscrew to take out the inlet valve to inspect. Put it back. Then realised I need to buy a new toilet inlet valve but I forgot to measure. So, back to unscrew to take it out to measure, then put it back…

Dinner tonight was an easy cook but looked classy. From the steamboat the other day, we had leftover of the yummylicious broth. Bring the broth to boil, and added in prawns, fish slices, seafood cheese tofu, fishballs and greens. The adults served this with rice. The children ate with glass noodle. The soup was sooo tasty from the sweetness of the prawns and the tastiness of the fish, the saltiness from the cheese tofu and fishballs. We were all so full. And indeed, giving…

I packed this for my husband and I was drooling over it. Regretted I didn't buy this for myself. This is called Chong Qing Hot and Sour noodle according to the shop. It comes with their handmade noodle, an egg, preserved vegetables, peanuts and fried garlic bits, of course their secret hot and sour soup with pork slices. I poured out for my husband and scooped one small bowl of the soup for myself to eat with my mixed economy rice. So flavorful especially their signature hot…

I've got lucky today. Blessed.😍 After buying variety of food from this small Malay stall at the roadside, the lady boss treated me one pack of Malay-style fried noodle. 'Mee goreng'. This is the economy style, means no meat added, only some vegetables and egg, but it is so delicious. From my knowledge, it is a simple stir fry in oil using onions and garlic, chilli powder, chilli flakes, coriander powder and some tomato paste. Salt and sugar for extra taste. She also gave…

Sharing food with husband is the best. He always bought back food that will make me saliva-drooling. Today, it is smoked duck with duck egg cooked in chilli coconut milk sauce. We called it Gulai Cili Salai Itik. Gulai is curry-like gravy, not 100% curry but similar. Usually the blend of spices will contain turmeric, coriander, ginger, onion, garlic, cayenne or chilli (if want it to be hot and spicy), the blend will be stir fry to enhance the fragrance then coconut milk will…

I took this scenic view when I went for my vaccination. It is at National Stadium Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I was happier that day that I got to be out of the house for some 'sight-seeing' and photography session more than happy about the vaccination. It was great to be able to breathe some fresh air outside the house. This pond is situated outside of the stadium. Scorching bright that day but look at the beautiful sharp view and the clear blue sky with some…

Looking at my phone's gallery on all the trees and flowers I took years ago and I STILL absolutely love this one. It stood there proud and looking grand, making it looked like I was a professional photographer. Took this photo with Samsung Note Galaxy 5 and it looked amazing. I missed going out again to look at trees and flowers, to look like a nerd, squating or scooping to take photos. This was taken at Royal Selangor, Kuala Lumpur. Hope you like it. #myoriginalphoto…

How we miss our aunt who lived alone. She is in her 70s and still strong and healthy. Two weeks had passed and we are no longer under Enhanced Movement Control Order, so I went to visit her, as usual, for lunch (it's her invitation so that she can cook for us!) Brace yourself as you are going to see feasting table. And I always ready my phone to capture the photo of the food. She is really a good chef. What do we have here? 1) Fried prawns and fried chicken breast 2) Braised…

Walking to my apartment's security to collect parcel, and I saw these tiny wild flowers, so beautiful. So care-free. Living their life flaunting their beauty like no one cares, like no one judges. I kind of envy them😍 If I am a flower, I would love to accompany those with worries, hoping that if they would pause awhile to look at me, to talk to me, to gaze at nature, and be assured that tough time will pass too. To make a little prayer, to take a deeper breath, to exhale all…

Chinese-style Pork Chives Dumplings Do you suddenly have certain food cravings and you want to eat it for few days? I had been craving for dumplings for many days now. This is the 3rd time I am buying from a Chinese stall nearby my house. This stall mainly sells China type of noodle like those with mala soup, or mala sourish soup. Everything is handmade from scratch - their noodle, sauces, soup and the dumplings skin and fillings. A lot of people love their handmade noodles.…

This was taken from my apartment, at where the isle is, the walking corridor. I get to see this view every night when I throw rubbish. But, I had to zoom abit to capture the two popular buildings at Kuala Lumpur - the Twin Tower and the KL Tower. Of course with some edit, it became purplish colour because I just love this tint of colour. Actually, I miss going out to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, been at home for way to long I can even count how many new white strands of…

I am not a baker but I do bake occasionally when needed like when the last two bananas were overripe and no one else gonna eat it. And I didn't like to throw food. So...Google-ing up **two-banana banana bread**. Usually, I will find the recipe without using mixer and I prefer to use fork and spatula and get it done asap. This one used the following recipe: 2 overriped bananas, you mashed them 3/4 cup sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup…

Weekend at Aunt's / Feasting After two weeks of Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) in Malaysia, I could go out again. I am still on guard as the Covid-19 cases are still high, so the only thing I could think of was to visit my aunt. She is an elderly staying alone, so I wanted to make sure she is fine. And I guess a short video for us to chit chat would brighten up her already-very-brighten soul. Of course, before I dropped by her house, I did inform her days before. As…

Feeling lonely, but I guess, I mean, I know, it is still okay. I thought I am a super introvert but I guess human by nature still crave for social interaction. I used to love staying at home, so much so, if I didn't marry my husband, I would stay at home all the time. Or so I thought.... It had been monthsss (I lost count) staying at home now due to the pandemic and our country's way of lockdown, I ACTUALLY miss going out to the malls to look at people, I miss going to mamak…

After husband's vaccination, we got to drive to a shop I had been wanting to go. The name of the shop is Taste of Medan, they sell really delicious Indonesian food. We bought back some dishes for dinner (I will post during dinner ya), as for lunch, I bought myself their Medan vegetables mixed rice which comes with potatoes, French beans, cabbage curry. Just don't feel like eating meat for lunch. So so delicious..I finished the big plate of rice. OMG! My husband got himself…

@pinkjadeite

In my previous post, I did mention will post the dinner we bought earlier from Taste of Medan (a shop which sells authentic Indonesian food). We bought: - Chicken Berempah (spices marinated fried chicken) - Chicken Rendang (chicken in dry curry) - Sambal Sotong (squid in chilli paste) - Perkedil (Deep Fried mashed potatoes) - Stir Fry French Bean It was finger-licking good, and we can tell all the spices or paste is made from scratch, not the pre-mix. Super yummy. There are…

This is another Indonesian dish which I love love love. Indonesian love it, so do many of my Malay friends. Very simple to cook too. Although for this one, it was bought from Taste of Medan - the shop I mentioned yesterday. This is stir fry 'tempeh' with potatoes and glass noodle. Tempeh is fermented soy bean, but it doesn't have the usual fermented smell. Just quite plain and some nutty bean taste (if I describe correctly). Usually, it is fried till golden brown first then…

Throwback to October 2019... When the Coronavirus hasn't existed, the air was still fresh, people coughed without being fearful of the 'what-if-it-is-Covid19', when we still could travel. It was our first time travelling out of the country to Taipei, Taiwan. It is an amazing place for tourist - food, places of interests, and food again. This was taken right outside the hotel we stayed, where the night street market was with lots of street food at night. We miss travelling…

I am officially a rocket to the moon. Haha. Because I am literally burning hot, both my lips and stomach!!! 🔥🥵 Mala Hot and Sour Noodle from this China stall for my lunch, and the dumplings also in mala sauce because I ordered wrongly. I couldn't finish my lunch 'coz the stomach ordered me to STOP eating. As I am typing this, I am drinking milk to help my burning stomach. Not sure why today it is extra hot and spicy. Anyway, what you guys have for your meal today? And…

My version of potato gratin is being improvised to super easy way until I am not sure is it still qualified to be called potato gratin. Here is my take of potato gratin with carrots. Firstly, slice the potatoes thinly, followed by shred the carrots and grate the cheese block. Layer the potatoes, followed by shredded carrots layer, then grated cheese layer on your baking pan. Make a cup of milk with the full cream milk powder of my youngest son, mix onion powder and garlic…

Second dose of Sinovac done today. Today is even faster than the first dose. Went in and got the vaccination within 10 minutes. My husband and I take this opportunity to have time together as couple. 😍💪 We shall see what nice food to pack since we seldom drive this far. Hope everything is fine with our bodies. I had a dream yesterday that after my second dose, I started to be able to understand the animals and the animals and insects start to come to me to get help. I can…

Economy Mixed Rice for today. We call it 'chak fan' in Kantonis. I love buying mixed rice, if you know me enough, I don't mind to buy mixed rice everyday whether it is from Chinese cuisine, or Malay, or Indian, or mamak. As long as there is rice and variety of dishes for me to choose from. I think you can get a really balanced meal of carb, protein and vegetables. And not expensive as well. During my college time, I always suggested going to mixed rice stall until my…

I took this 'statue' of the 'keris' at Stadium Bukit Jalil yesterday. 'Keris' is a Malay word, meaning a dagger or sword of sort. I would guess there is this huge keris statue because Malaysia's biggest race is Malay. And keris is a symbol of Malay culture historically. Is like a famous weapon used in the past by our warriors. One of the warrior is Hang Tuah. I can't remember all the history. This keris is so beautiful. I walked near to it to admire how it was sculptured out…

Our most memorable year was in 2019 when we got to travel the furthest in our entire life. From Malaysia to Taiwan. We truly enjoyed visiting Taipei 101, the popular tall tower at Taiwan. This was taken when we were at the top floor of it (I forgot which floor, maybe floor 80 or 90). If you are not scared of height, you will enjoy standing there and look down to this scenic view. There was a lift who travelled super speed right to the 'rooftop' open air too. Some people…

One thing awesome about staying in multilingual and multi races country is that we get to eat really variety of food. Just walk across the street, you will find any cuisine; Malay, Chinese, Indian, Mamak, Arabian, Chinese-Muslin and etc. Tonight the boys wanted to eat only peanut butter sandwich for dinner and some oats or cereal drink. That's a good news to me. So I also eat whatever there is. One of it is vadeh. Or some call it vada. To be specific, this is medu vada, the…

Chicken Floss Butter Sandwich for snack today. I still have two containers of chicken floss from Chinese New Year, all because my husband was being kind to support a lady who sold it to us while we were eating at the table. Basically, chicken floss is made by boiling chunks of chicken breast meat in a pot (of water with seasoning like soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, cinnamon and star anise) until the water is almost dry. This step takes some time. Then, take out the…

This is the comfort food I must have once in a while for myself. Actually, the rest of us love it too mainly because of luncheon meat. Any luncheon meat fans here? Although we try to cut down for health purpose so maybe once in few months. Fried meehoon is very easy to cook, and so versatile you can choose what ingredients you want to put in there. This round there is shredded carrots and lettuce, onions, garlic, eggs, and of course luncheon meat. My usual seasoning are…

One thing cool we found out when we were at Taiwan was that every streets and every lanes of shops are filled with coin machines. Not just one or two at a corner but manyyyy, as many as 50 machines. You get to choose from cheap ones to more expensive one. And the items inside the machines are usually of high quality, not those plastic cheapo whistle or ring which easily breaks. The boys manage to get cool Dragon Balls keychains as well as cute animals press press destressor…

Two weeks ago, we were on the topic of plants. The components of plants, how plants make food on own, the growth and the usage. Since, there is an experiment to observe the growth of plants and it is a simple one, Jansen was excited to do it. We used green beans as they were available at home. An experiment where you place cotton pad on a flat round disc, add sufficient amount of water and scattered the seeds around. Those seeds actually grew quite fast. Within few days, we…

Husband and I decided to drive to the town further away from where we stay to a restaurant we love. And since it was rare opportunity, we grabbed more food, also wanted to support the restaurant. Braised pork belly, bitter gourd spare ribs, preserved vegetables with pork belly, the internal organs with pepper soup, internal organs…

Another Saturday to swing by my aunt's place to make sure she is alright as well as chit-chatting with her awhile, helping her to measure blood pressure and jot down on her hospital card. We talk about anything from weather to food, to plants, to human, to the state of country and the world. This week, I chose not to eat there but just pack home. She gave us some nectarines, pumpkin and mint leaves too. It is a good time of catching up. And she is so healthy at her age. I…
