The price of liberty

We are living in unprecedeted times, we have such restrictions on our liberty at the moment due to the covid pandemic.

These restrictions are all in place to 'keep us safe' and 'stop the spread' it is all for our benefit to stop us getting the virus.

We went into lockdown very quickly and new laws were brought in which have restricted our freedoms like never before.

I think that we need to be vigilant that the state does not, once it has assumed such power and control over our lives, then use that power to restrict our liberty and freedom more permanently.

The vaccine has been developed now and it is 'voluntary' allegedly, but will we need to prove we have been vaccinated if we wish to travel or enter a resturant, of maybe even work in a particular sector?

Yes the vaccine may be voluntary but how 'free' will we be if we have not had it?

There is talk of new variants of covid and maybe we will have to have a new vaccine developed every year, will we have to prove that we have been given the latest modifed vaccine in order to travel in future?

This virus is most dangerous to those over 60 or who have underlying health conditions but to the younger generation the majority of them are at a low risk of serious illness due to covid.

If the over 60's have been vaccinated then they are 'protected' or so I think.

If they are protected from having the vaccine then they are not at risk from younger people, who may have the virus passing it on to them are they?

Maybe I am wrong, I don't pretend to be an expert though it just seems like we are all being pressured and coerced into taking a vaccine that the majorty of us younger healthy people will recover from.

Why not prioritize those at risk and let the rest of us return to a normal life, where we can see our friends and family in their homes and travel freely as we wish.

Our health and mental wellbeing is also important during this pandemic.

We are human beings, we are social creatures we need each others company.

The lack of social interaction is detrimental to our health as well.

We are frowned upon and told that we are being selfish if we decide not to take the vaccine, if we question its safely we are just ignorant people, of course its safe! we are told over and over again by the media on every channel, we shouldn't question it at all and anyone that does must be a crazy conspiricy theorist!

It is early days with this vaccine, how long does the immunity last for example is a good question. I myself would like to evaluate things in say a years time and make a better informed decison as to whether or not the vaccine is safe and if it is truly effective.

How much is it the role of the state to dictate to us how we live our lives and how much of it is down to our own personal responsibility?

The price of liberty is eternal vigilance! Let us be vigilant that our freedoms are not taken away permanently because of this pandemic.

This pandemic has caused our moves to be limited. But it's for our own benefit. And it's not like our freedom has been taken permanently from us. Just a little more patience and it's all done. Things will be better soon. I am hoping.

I hope things will be better soon though our health consists of more than not catching covid, operations have been postponed, diagnosises missed, the toll on peoples mental health needs also to be thought about, people have seen their buisnesses fail, education has suffered and so on. There are no easy answers I know, but I am not so sure we will be back to 'normal' so soon.
