Dwarf marmosets or dwarf monkeys are the smallest monkeys in the world. They can grow from 14 to 16 cm and weigh only 140 grams (male) and 120 grams (female). Due to their size and beautiful appearance, they received several nicknames, the most popular of which are: mono de bolsillo and leoncito

They inhabit the Amazon rainforest in Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru,Brazil. Because they are so small, they can climb very tall trees and find unused food sources on slender branches. Being small, fast and constantly on trees, the dwarf monkey can easily be confused with a squirrel. It feeds primarily on wood resin, which is obtained by digging holes in trees to create a stable flow. This process can be time consuming, which is why they spend most of the day making holes in the trees. They also eat fruits, nectar and small animals such as insects and spiders.

In the wild, these cute, smallest monkeys in the world live for about 11-12 years, while in zoos they can live up to 20 years.
