The Caspian tiger has lived in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Mongolia, Iran, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan… . The Russian government worked hard to destroy them during land reclamation in the early 20th century. There was considered to be no room for tigers in their plans and Russian soldiers were ordered to kill all the tigers around the Caspian Sea and this was carried out very efficiently. When the extermination was almost complete, the peasants began clearing the forests and planting rice and cotton. Because of all that, the Caspian tiger retreated first to the wooded areas, then to the swamps around the great rivers and finally to the mountains, where it almost certainly became extinct. There are still eyewitness stories that tigers exist in the forests of Turkmenistan, but scientists have no solid evidence to confirm these stories.

So sad that this has become extinct. I hope we can coexist with them freely but they are dangerous, must be a reason why people hunt them.
